Life can be incredibly hard, and there is no "manual" for how to navigate life's overwhelming situations and complex emotional experiences. During these tough times, it's common to feel "stuck" and desperately wanting solutions, while struggling to identify them on your own. At this juncture, the objectivity, support, and insight of a licensed clinical psychologist can help you to move through this time in your life. I have witnessed this process, personally, and helped many clients persevere through intense periods of conflict and pain.

I specialize in and love exploring substance use, LGBTQ identities and relationships, and BIPOC experiences.
Maybe you have old wounds that still shape today’s reactions, stress in your body that won’t let up, chronic anxiety, low self-esteem that keeps you small, or relationship issues. Maybe you’re sorting through identities that weren’t affirmed, or the impact of racism, homophobia, transphobia, or other systemic stressors.

I approach psychotherapy from a whole-person perspective and I believe therapy, along with other practices, can help us awaken to a life of meaning. In therapy I will help you identify the source of your longing to be whole, and together, we will move closer to that source, so you become re-sourced. Together we will explore your innate natural cycles and help you align to your own rhythm, so that you might meet depletion with rest and energy with creativity.

I help clients navigate anxiety, depression, grief, and substance use, often addressing co-occurring challenges.
My ideal clients are adults and young professionals who may seem like they have things together on the outside but feel overwhelmed, anxious, stuck, or mentally exhausted on the inside. You may be navigating career pressure, relationship challenges, a major life transition, or simply questioning whether the life you’ve built is actually working for you. Maybe you overthink decisions, put pressure on yourself to have everything figured out, struggle to set boundaries, or find yourself repeating patterns you know aren’t helping.

In today's challenging world, it's all too easy to feel overwhelmed, anxious, depressed and uncertain about how to navigate life's complexities. But you don't have to face these struggles alone. Having support can be essential in learning how to show up for yourself in your own life, and in the world around you. It can be hard to find meaning and feel like you have something to contribute. And some days it can hard to just get out of bed. I get it. You are not alone.

I have been working and teaching in the mental health field for the past 20 years and have helped many people grow, live a more authentic life and form stronger bonds with the ones they love. I believe a good therapeutic relationship forms the foundation from which emotional growth and change occur. I create a warm, playful and collaborative environment where your thoughts and feelings can be safely experienced and explored. Ultimately, a good experience in therapy should help you to become more yourself and feel more secure in who that is.

Life can be complicated and confusing, as an individual or a couple. Making room for joy, for satisfaction – for even a deep breath – can get pushed aside amid the demands of children, parents, school, work, and the flood of world news. You may be struggling with desired changes, such as parenthood or going away to college, or with the loss of a loved one or a long-term way of living. You may have experienced a traumatic event, or be concerned with emotional eating. Or maybe you just feel that something isn’t quite right, even though life looks fine on the surface.

Substance Use Therapists
How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.
How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.
How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?
There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
