I work with clients who want to change, are interested in getting to know themselves better, and have the courage to engage in that exploration alongside a trusted professional. Your motivation for seeking therapy may be feeling depressed, stuck, anxious, or confused and longing for explanations or just some relief from cycles of distress. Maybe you are aware of the impact your past experiences are having on your current situation or you’re starting to make those connections. Wherever you are in the process, I will guide you in deepening your understanding and empower you to change.

You have the right to exist in the world just as you are. If you're here, something within you may be initiating growth. Maybe you're tired of feeling 'stuck', maybe there are questions you have yet to voice or maybe there is a dissatisfaction with your life or your relationships, most importantly the relationship you have with yourself.

I work with individuals and couples to explore deep-rooted patterns and move through life transitions and relationship challenges with greater clarity and authenticity. My work often includes supporting people in managing anxiety, strengthening personal boundaries, understanding the impact of family-of-origin dynamics, and processing trauma. My psychotherapy work is informed by a decade in the corporate world, my experience as a birth doula, and an MBA with a focus on coaching.

We all struggle at times to learn from life and to become our best selves. As a young man I pursued a variety of strategies, healthy and unhealthy, to cope with my own struggles. I think we all do that. When I entered into psychotherapy for the first time I found the help that I needed to learn and to grow and to overcome the struggles that had been so overwhelming for me. I became a psychologist to pass on what had been so helpful for me.

In therapy you become more familiar with yourself. The parts you’re proud to share, afraid to share, or secretly wish to share. It’s all welcome. I’ll listen carefully and deeply, and offer reflections and suggestions where appropriate. And I’ll help create a space where you can gently untangle what’s knotted inside, letting what no longer fits fall away so you can live more freely.

You have friction in your relationship. You need help enhancing your connection and communication skills so you can set healthier and stronger boundaries. Maybe you're looking to get ahead of future problems before they start. It can be difficult making a change in your life, even one you want. Couples therapy is an opportunity to work on your relationship to feel closer, to build something that will last. It's also a place to understand why it just doesn't feel like it's working anymore. Come have a space to strengthen boundaries, healthy communication, and re-establish a partnership. Come try couples counseling.

You and your life isn’t one note. You are multifaceted and the demands you face happen to be as well; balance, as of late, has been hard to achieve. Currently, the sound-track of your life has moved away from a harmonious symphony -or maybe from an upbeat pop song- to something more unnerving and stressful (like the alarm you use to wake up to in the morning or the background music in a horror film—building tension, bracing yourself from some known or unknown threat). Life is stressful...add fears about the future, a breakup, difficult friends/family, and/or other stressors and you may find that old coping strategies aren't enough.

I work collaboratively to help you become aware of your strengths and start finding solutions that will enhance your life and relationships. Being mindful of how societal attitudes about success, gender, age, class, religion, ethnicity, sexuality, body image and relationships impact our experience of life helps guide the work. In a supportive environment I work with individuals as they explore and learn to live their life, in their own context, in their own way.

We at the Bay Area Center for Adolescents understand that adolescence can be a difficult time for preteens, teens, young adults, and parents. On the one hand, adolescents are learning to manage life on their own and wanting more independence, but on the other hand, they may not be prepared for the responsibilities of life or realizing the consequences of their actions. We work with adolescents and their families to navigate this difficult time while helping adolescents to become independent, but still maintain the relationship with family. The Bay Area Center for Adolescents is a group of providers who all know how to connect with adolescents and their families and provide effective therapy.

You are here because on some level you know that life can be better. It is possible to feel, think, and actually live more in alignment with the ways that we really want to. Psychotherapy is a highly effective tool that can help get us there. While friends can help relieve loneliness and various medications can ease symptoms, the process of psychotherapy helps us to change the way we experience and interact with our feelings and with the world around us. For over 25 years I have had a full-time psychotherapy and coaching practice and have helped many individuals and couples activate potential and live fuller more rewarding lives.

When I ask my clients what brings them to therapy, I am often told it is because they are feeling “stuck.” Many of my clients struggle with questions related to values and life purpose. Others may require support navigating difficult transitions, setting boundaries, or overcoming burnout in their professional lives and relationships. I specialize in the treatment of stress, anxiety, depression and ADHD using evidence-based approaches. Additionally, I provide preparation/integration for therapeutic ketamine sessions, helping you to make sense of and assimilate the insights you gained during these experiences into your daily life.

Hello! I work with individuals who wish to create lasting, positive changes in their lives and relationships. I offer safe, compassionate and supportive counseling in an atmosphere that deepens understanding, promotes healing, and releases potential. Unresolved emotional issues can stifle creativity, confidence, ambition, and our ability for good relationships. Trauma and loss can cause sadness, depression and pain that inhibit and block. My personal style is interactive, empathic, non-judgmental and respectful of individual values and choices.

Substance Use Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
