Our therapists at the Bay Area Center for Couples Therapy can help you and your partner improve your relationship . Don't wait until it's too late. Research has found that couples wait an average of six years to seek help after their problems begin. Whether you're in the beginning of your relationship , been together a long time, have been just starting to struggle, or are on the brink of calling it quits, remember, its never too late to fix your relationship . We use effective, evidence based therapy called Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, which has shown significant improvement in 88% of couples treated with EFT and 70-73% of couples moving from distress to recovery in an average of 20 sessions. Our work is also informed by John Gottman's research on couples .

So much of our pain occurs in relationship to others, and I believe it can be helpful to find healing in relationship as well.
Do you feel like you aren't good enough? Are you sensitive to being hurt in social situations? Do you struggle with issues of self esteem or self worth? If these are common themes for you, your teen/child, or in your relationship , then perhaps we might work well together. I center my work around self compassion. I believe that only from a place of self kindness can we feel grounded within ourselves enough to develop a compassionate relationship with others around us. I use mindfulness and somatic body oriented work in order to help us connect deeper with our self, our inner knowing and to be able to cultivate trust with ourselves.

We can tip the scales through traditional talk therapy, EMDR trauma therapy, or couples therapy (utilizing the Gottman approach).
Joy and suffering are fundamental to the experience of being human. Let therapy help you tip the scales to the more joyful side, more often.

I Work with individuals and couples mainly. My background is in substance misuse counseling. I also see a large proportion of clients struggling with body image concerns and disordered eating. I work in a relational way, that invites the client into the therapeutic process, setting goals, assigning homework if appropriate, coming up with ways to better resource in times of stress/ emotional overwhelm. I enjoy working with people who view themselves as sensitive beings, intuitives /empaths. I am somatically trained, which means I invite the body into the therapy, offering interventions such as grounding exercises/ aromatherapy.

What is working for you? What is not working for you? How is your relationship with yourself affecting your relationships with others? .
I naturally feel empathetic towards others. I am fascinated by people, what they have been through and the resiliency that they have developed as a result. I relate the strengths that I see in my clients to my clients, helping build up their self-esteem and confidence. One of the most gratifying aspects about therapy is helping people identify what they like about themselves and observing their self-confidence blossom.

We at the Bay Area Center for Adolescents understand that adolescence can be a difficult time for preteens, teens, young adults, and parents. On the one hand, adolescents are learning to manage life on their own and wanting more independence, but on the other hand, they may not be prepared for the responsibilities of life or realizing the consequences of their actions. We work with adolescents and their families to navigate this difficult time while helping adolescents to become independent, but still maintain the relationship with family. The Bay Area Center for Adolescents is a group of providers who all know how to connect with adolescents and their families and provide effective therapy.

Sometimes it can be difficult to sort out all our feelings, especially when things are messy, confusing, and overwhelming. It is my belief that everyone can benefit from counseling to process the feelings that come with human experience. At the foundation of my practice is forming a strong therapeutic relationship with you. I believe the quality of our relationship is the basis of what can lead to healing. Gaining greater insight into yourself can help you carry out how you want to be in the world.

In today’s fast paced world, we are faced with many stressors, obstacles and challenges. Sometimes we need to slow down and take stock of what we have and changes we may want to make. My practice is geared towards helping adults and couples achieve the life that they want rather than struggling just to get by. Therapy can be both challenging and an exciting experience. Together, we can work on eliminating your anxiety, depression, relationships problems and general discontent.

Are you looking to make a shift in your life, free yourself from an addiction, decrease anxiety, or improve your relationship with others? I believe therapy is a way for individuals to connect and access their own wisdom to make the necessary changes for a life that is most aspiring and fulfilling to them. I invite people to explore areas that may be affecting them and make a transition from where they are to where they would like to be. I use a treatment approach that is warm, relational, accepting and authentic, and am action-oriented and solution-focused.

I've found that inner and relationship conflicts, anxiety, depression, compulsions, and psychological distress of any kind, can be perfect opportunities to know ourselves more deeply, and to come into a more intimate and meaningful engagement with our lives and with others.
I am here to help you work through the challenges you've been trying to resolve alone. I specialize in working with individuals who are "high-achievers/perfectionists" yet struggle with satisfying, stable intimacy in their relationships. I also work with those who feel "different" from their peers in a variety of ways. I help my clients transform their struggles into a pathway to a powerful and deep alliance with themselves and with the important people in their lives. Inner intimacy can become the basis and blueprint for all other forms of connection in your life.

Healing starts in the relationship created between us, client and therapist. I'm here to see you - your inner wisdom, creativity, uniqueness, the ways you cope with your struggles. Together, we'll slowly observe the layers of your experience with curiosity and without judgment and develop an awareness that would lead to an acceptance or a change. In this safe container we learn to be with our shadow and no longer fear phenomena such as depression, anxiety, low self esteem, grief, and relationship , as they are human emotions and part of our growth.

Being human is hard, and we’re not meant to do it alone. There are lots of things in our lives that can cause us to feel disconnected from ourselves, others, or our lives. Therapy is a means by which we can come to meet ourselves and our suffering, and connect more intimately with life through the support of a safe, trusted, loving presence. I aim to provide that presence for my clients. We’ll work together to create a relationship where you feel seen, heard, and supported to process, feel, and transform.

Over the past twenty years I have worked with individuals, couples , families and adolescents.
I work collaboratively to help you become aware of your strengths and start finding solutions that will enhance your life and relationships. Being mindful of how societal attitudes about success, gender, age, class, religion, ethnicity, sexuality, body image and relationships impact our experience of life helps guide the work. In a supportive environment I work with individuals as they explore and learn to live their life, in their own context, in their own way.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
