Moving closer to a balanced and whole state of mind is the main goal of talk therapy. In a trusting and collaborative environment, you are given the chance to remove obstacles on the way of reaching your full potential for personal growth and improved mental health. Also, through conversation with an objective and trained individual, you will be able to understand the complexities of your mind, making your unknown known. In addition to working with adults, one of my main focuses is individual and family psychotherapy with adolescents dealing with issues such as identity formation and
relationship
building.

I have a relaxed, open and interactive approach, and I specialize in working with grief, life transitions, anxiety, depression,
relationship
issues, childhood trauma and LGBTQ-related issues.
Are you a gay man struggling with anxiety, a major life transition, depression or feel isolated from the gay community? While social media and dating apps provide easy ways to stay connected and meet new people, they may not provide the type of intimacy you want. As a gay therapist, I understand our experiences are as diverse as everyone else's, and at the same time, there are aspects of our lives that are unique to us and our community. During our work together, you will gain deeper insight into your problems, develop skills to change unhelpful patterns and feel more empowered to achieve the happiness and fulfillment you deserve.

Sometimes we feel anxious, depressed, ashamed, disappointed, or just plain numb because we think we should be better, faster, smarter, or simply not have these feelings at all. With the goal of moving forward in a more positive direction,
relationship
challenges, communication breakdowns, trauma history, substance use dependency, procrastination, fear, isolation, grief, positive expressions of anger, coming out, are just some of the things we work on in therapy. The solutions my clients seek are often found within, and I help them find them with insight, gentle nudging or sometimes with stronger, more direct interventions.

As an intuitive & holistic therapist, I will assist you in strengthening your inner psyche and developing new tools to manage negative feelings and thoughts.

Even though it is hard to do at times, I believe one of the best methods of healing is to talk and let it all out – all of the hurt, all of the sadness, all of the things that get buried within – and therapy is one of the safest places to do that. I strive to provide a safe, non-judgmental space for adults and
couples
to reveal, feel, and heal their thoughts and emotions and gain insight and support during difficult times. I offer Tele-therapy as a Certified Clinical Telemental Health Provider (CTMH). I have Immediate availability and I have both early morning and evening appointments available.

Are you exploring your sexuality or gender and need support? Are you healing from sexual assault or intimate
partner
violence and don't know how to talk about it? Are you in the kink and/or poly community and need nonjudgmental support? I get it. It can be scary to look for a therapist when your experiences are outside "the norm." I empower my clients to become more self-aware and to better understand and process their unique experiences in a collaborative, self-affirming environment.

I founded the Gay Therapy Center in 2015 because I believe in the healing power of LGBTQ people working with LGBTQ therapists. It's very important in therapy to know for sure that your therapist really "gets" you. At GTC, we’re LGBTQ therapists for LGBTQ people. We've now grown to become the largest private LGBTQ therapy provider in the country with therapists in DC, NYC, SF, LA, and online. We personally match you to the therapist we think will be particularly good for you! You won’t have to deal with waiting lists, sifting through profiles, or matching by algorithms.

I'm experienced in working with a wide variety of issues, including sexual and internet porn addictions, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, sexuality,
relationship
and intimacy problems.
A lot of us have a hard time asking for help. Fear, shame, or needing to be self-sufficient are feelings that can get in the way of recognizing when we need help--and reaching out and asking for it. My approach to therapy creates a safe place where sensitive, painful or scary feelings can be openly explored without judgment. We form a partnership to figure out what is going on and how to move forward. I'm actively engaged in our work--it's a partnership, after all--to help you overcome problem behaviors and develop better ways of coping.

My work has been focused on treating people struggling with depression, anxiety, traumatic experiences, professional concerns, parenting,
relationship
issues, self-esteem and life transitions.
Sometimes life presents challenges that are too difficult to manage on one's own and therapy can be an excellent choice to address those obstacles. Therapy provides a conversation that is not available in any other
relationship
. I invite people to explore and clarify what they want and together we identify the barriers and create attainable goals. We will work together to understand what really matters to you. My treatment style is warm, direct, humorous and deeply respectful While each individual client requires something unique to them, in general, I offer practical solutions while also using an insight-orientated approach.

As a
couples
therapist, I am trained in EFT (Emotional Focused Therapy) and I enjoy helping
couples
who are struggling with issues of communication, connection, and trust.
I enjoy working with clients who want more than traditional "talk" therapy. I understand you might feel like just talking about your life cannot change your experience of it. You may be asking how can therapy make a difference? My approach is informed by the practice of mindfulness - the non-judgmental observation of the present moment. Research has shown mindfulness to be a highly effective treatment for depression, anxiety, and addiction. How is working in mindfulness different? In mindfulness we learn how to shift our emotional state from one of suffering to more empowered states of aliveness.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
