The most important thing in working with me is your positive desire to change. Given that I'll bring you into the office, we will discuss your issues of concern and design and implement suggestions to create growth , understanding and lasting solutions. Many clients see me once for behavior change through hypnotherapy. Others see me for ongoing psychotherapy appointments. Some clients combine both modalities to insure continued growth and change. I am optimistic about the possibilities of health and healing through our work together. After forty years in practice I remain committed to my clients and their work with me

Do you find yourself playing out the same self sabotaging patterns and feel frustrated to break them? Do you have trouble in your relationships, wanting connection yet feeling lonely? Do you resort to alcohol or drugs and it's becoming a problem? Does it feel like parts of you are in conflict and out of your control? If you could figure it out logically you would have already. These patterns may feel mysterious to you but what if these parts of yourself have good intentions and are just stuck trying to help. In therapy we can break these painful patterns by healing the underlying issues and giving you freedom and peace inside.

Now accepting new clients. I believe in therapy. I believe that people innately have the strength to overcome difficult situations. However, given life experiences, our environment, and relationships, it can be challenging to view ourselves with kind eyes.

I am a licensed bilingual, bicultural therapist who has been working in the mental health field for over 16 years. I enjoy working with the person who is ready to take that first step to make change. I support them by promoting a safe space in order to begin the therapeutic work. I normally work with individuals and families with multiple siblings. Recently I have been working with couples coming to address relationship challenges: intimacy and infidelity, finances, gambling and addictions, co-parenting and blended families, domestic violence and child abuse, as well as other relationship challenges.

Not accepting new clients
Your potential is much greater than you even think. But psychological burdens -- such as depression, loneliness, guilt, and anxiety -- rob you of the freedom to feel, act, and choose. Self-protective strategies left over from childhood, ingrained but faulty ideas, and an absence of self-acceptance make life very, very difficult. I prefer to work in a reasonably short time frame but also recognize that your trust in me is essential to change. So my sessions are not always full steam ahead. Our closeness gives you courage.

For 20 years I have supported folks with mental health conditions and substance use disorders.
Have you made significant changes in your life but find yourself stuck in old patterns? Are you in recovery from drugs or alcohol or disordered eating, but still find yourself struggling in other ways? My Name is Kelle Kirk and I help folks in recovery STAY in recovery. Many of us have found out that cutting out the drinking or drugging or changing our relationship to food or our bodies didn't "fix" everything; in some ways, maybe we found things to be more intense or complicated in this new landscape. You have come so far and made such progress, let's work on the being human and truly do something different.

How we can help: reducing the negative consequences of substance use; treating co-occurring disorders such as depression, grief, anxiety, trauma, or personality disorders; teaching mindfulness skills to manage the urge for immediate gratification; and working with friends and families to help them understand addiction and address codependency.
If previous attempts to stop substance misuse haven’t been successful, or if you’re interested in learning how to moderate rather than abstain, we invite you to contact us for a free phone consultation. We use a compassionate, evidence-based approach to treat addiction, guided by the biopsychosocial model to help you understand the biological, emotional, and behavioral factors underlying substance use. Our therapeutic style is empathetic, non-judgmental, and direct, helping you gain a deep understanding of yourself. We are committed to creating a safe, confidential environment where you can comfortably explore your options.

Substance Use Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
