While I enjoy working with both individuals and couples, I particularly enjoy helping clients who have trauma histories, who desire healthier relationships, or who are engaging with questions around identity, sexuality,
spirituality
, or existential life questions.
I'm passionate about helping people explore their stories in creative ways to empower them to live fully and authentically. In therapy, I create a safe and sacred space where people can understand both their power and their pain, heal from the wounds and trauma of their pasts, and move forward in their lives into meaning, freedom and wholeness. I have an active, engaged, personal and empathic style, and I strive to help my clients feel comfortable and known.

Are you struggling with food and don't know where to turn? Are you uncomfortable in your body? Do you feel like you have it together in all areas of life except your eating? Do you experience overwhelming anxiety and sadness/regret around food (or after eating) or about your body? I can help. My passion is to help people repair their relationships with food and with their bodies so that they can replace the criticism and self-loathing with compassion. I have helped many clients over the years find relief from the burden of food and body anxiety.

Though this is not necessary for all clients that I've worked with, I specialize in the integration of faith/
spirituality
with various aspects of our intersectional identities whether that be race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, socioeconomic status, abilities, disabilities, or others.
I'm passionate about working with all types of individuals, and have experience with children, adolescents, teens, adults, and families. I've journeyed alongside clients coming to therapy for a wide range of challenges or concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, shame, guilt, abuse, grief, sexuality/gender, low self esteem, self -harm, and more. Some clients know exactly what they want to work on when they get here, and others need help discovering what they need/want to unpack.

I use spiritual principles throughout, honoring my client’s
spirituality
as they are open to it.
I work with people who struggle with self-esteem, often survivors of childhood trauma. Perhaps you struggle with depression & anxiety, feeling unseen & struggling in relationships. Or you may stay awake at night thinking of the past, the negative “voices” still ringing in you ears & heart, telling you that you have little or no value. More than anything, you desire to be known and valued for who you are on a deep level, to feel and be safe to be yourself. Together, we will create a safe environment where you can heal and be transformed from the inside out.

I believe that the greatest gift I can offer as a therapist is to hold a safe space for clients to explore any and all of their feelings, beliefs, and ideas without judgement. spirituality
, bodies, cultures, identities, and diverse experiences. In addressing these various parts of individuals I aspire to help them validate and explore their experiences as opportunities for growth and healing.

I specialize in: creative & artistic coaching, relationship issues, psychedelic-assisted therapy, multicultural issues,
spirituality
, men's issues, LGBTQ-affirming therapy, life coaching, stress, anxiety, and personal growth using psychotherapy, neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) and hypnotherapy.
People that usually work with me are typically feeling stuck, and at times are questioning their path. I have worked with many stressors for most of my career, in the capacity as an individual therapist, couples and family therapist, group facilitator, educator, coach, and consultant. Although I can work with most, I am a great match for those that identify as creative, cultured, empathic and sensitive. My therapeutic style is eclectic and pull from various modalities to provide support where needed. I am interactive and ask that my clients also work outside the therapy container. I provide legal psychedelic therapy part-time.

I approach therapy from an attachment-based and wholistic perspective, exploring each aspect of what makes you, you: your relationships, emotions, environment, and
spirituality
.
Life experiences can impact us in surprising, often difficult, and even traumatic ways leaving us feeling out of touch with ourselves and those around us. We all have a desire to feel understood, and that journey often begins within ourselves. My goal in therapy is to create a space where you feel heard and safe while we explore deeper into who you are and begin to wrestle with the question “where do I go from here?”.

Psychotherapist James Finley says, “The tyranny of suffering lasts only as long as it takes for compassion to show up on the scene.” Many who find themselves reading this may experience themselves as subject to the ‘tyranny of suffering’ in some way and may be searching for a compassionate presence in which they can feel safe, be deeply seen, attentively listened to, and profoundly accepted. My name is Jacob Munhoz and I invite you to consider allowing me to be that compassionate presence for you. ***Out of deep respect for the confidential nature of this work, I do not work directly with insurance providers.***

JOIN our waitlist for May 2023! Our therapists use a nervous system informed approach to therapy, specializing in helping adults, individuals & couples, nurture conscious & satisfying complex relationships with themselves, others, &
spirituality
. These adults want to create a consistent inner knowing of the reality that they're woven into the fabric of the universe, a knowing that translates to a more satisfying, connected, and complex life. We believe being disoriented from this inherent interconnectedness, which is often caused by nervous system dysregulation, is at the root of most mental health challenges.

My specialty is helping people with depression, anxiety, personal growth, adjustments, relationship issues, grief and
spirituality
.
I conduct individual, family and relationship therapy for adolescents, adults and families. Therapy can mean venting your thoughts and feelings so that you actually are and feel heard. It could mean having an objective person to help you process your thoughts and feelings and/or while challenging that process at times to allow insight on how to see things another way. Furthermore, it could mean facilitating a plan to help you change a behavior, a relationship, yourself, situation or even your life.

Spirituality Therapists
What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?
Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.
What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?
There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviors. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.
Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?
Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.
How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?
Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
