Although my approach with each client is highly individualized, I integrate trauma-informed, CBT, DBT, relational,
psychodynamic
, and feminist theoretical approaches in the work I do with clients.
I have had the honor of working with individuals across the lifespan with a variety of mental health concerns such as trauma, anxiety, depression, life transitions, LGBTQ-related issues, family dynamics, and more. I believe that human beings are inherently relational and that we are born to thrive from connection to others and wouldn’t be who we are if not for the people that have come in, and sometimes out, of our lives. Examining these relationships can be a huge part of therapy, whether it’s with our parents, our partners, or with ourselves.

I tend to favor drama therapy (the use of creative/performance art forms in sessions), CBT, TF-CBT, Attachment, Narrative, DBT, Somatic, and
Psychodynamic
models.
I tend to think of therapy as tupperware, it’s the container where we can unload what is weighing us down. Our personal backgrounds; ethnicity, race, gender, sexuality, socioeconomic status, religion, (dis)abilities, to name a few, are integral to who we are. These aspects can have a deep impact on the way we view, think of, the world and experience mental health. This is why a multicultural approach lays the foundation for my work with clients. Navigating healing while at the same time still existing within systemic oppression, marginalization, and erasure/assimilation is not easy. This is a safe container to do so.

I tailor my practice to each person's unique needs drawing upon
psychodynamic
, cognitive behavioral and mindfulness-based approaches.
Because each person is different, there is no "one-size-fits-all" approach to therapy. Ultimately, the right therapist can help you develop a greater sense of peace and self-fulfillment. So it is important to choose someone with whom you feel safe and comfortable; someone who will listen, empathize, and respect your needs; and someone with the skills necessary to support you in reaching your goals. In the process, you will acquire greater self-awareness, and learn to cope more effectively with life issues. This is my approach to therapy. I hope I will be able to help you.

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.
How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.
Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.
What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
