Don't run away from grief. Look for the remedy inside the pain because the rose came from the thorn. " -Rumi. Welcome! I am Anahita. As a person, I have gone through a lot of difficulties from childhood to adulthood. I know dealing with mental health problems is hugely daring, as I experienced and battled such dilemmas in my youth and suffered immensely. It took me several years to overcome my struggles.

If you suffer from worry and anxiety or OCD , you are in the right place.
I help those who desire quiet from the noise of constant thinking, self-doubt, and worry. Those who are sick of feeling not good enough no matter how hard they try. Those who feel powerless against compulsive urges they can’t seem to resist. And those who want to let go of the mental chatter of a mind incessantly playing out worst case scenarios.

Jim Hatton
PhD
I have run a free support group for OCD sufferers and their family members for 21 years.
I'm Jim Hatton, Ph.D. I began my career as a neuroscientist, and then realized my calling for helping people. I spent the next 20 years as a Marriage and Family therapist specializing in cognitive behavioral therapy, primarily working with people with OCD and Impulse Control Disorders like Trichotillomania and Compulsive Skin Picking . Becoming very familiar with ERP and Habit Reversal skills for treating these sufferers, I saw the additional need for helping the others, both family and treating professionals, around them directly (and thereby indirectly helping the sufferers too). This is where I currently conduct these efforts.

Majority of my recent work revolves around treating Anxiety and OCD , which are based on fear of the unknown and attempts to control the environment or problem-solve potential issues.
You may like it when things are predictable and in order, and get frustrated when others don't follow the same rule. There is a lot of uncertainty in the world and our brains don't like the unknown. If you have been struggling emotionally, feeling down, constantly on edge, increasingly fearful or irritable, reach out for help. Stress is easier to manage with proper tools and support. Connecting with a therapist who you can trust and feel comfortable with is important. I was born and raised in Poland and have lived in San Diego since 2002. I got my BA and MSW degrees at SDSU. I have 10+ years of experience working in mental health.

“What happened to my happy child?” Parents often come to me feeling overwhelmed and confused by their child’s obsessive compulsive disorder ( OCD ) or anxiety. Often it starts with a small fear – about something bad happening to Mom or Dad, about getting sick, about failing a quiz – but the anxiety grows over time and keeps your child from the calm and joy you wish for them. Your child may retreat and avoid people and situations that used to bring them happiness. Many parents do their best to help them regain control of their thoughts and emotions, but they become disheartened when their efforts seem to make no difference.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

OCD is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
