Couple's sessions are structured using the principles of Emotionally Focused Therapy and Adult Attachment theory.
I offer clients a supportive, caring environment to identify solutions for growth and well-being. Together we can identify specific problems and create common sense strategies that have high probabilities of success. The areas often discussed in therapy include relationships, substance abuse, career frustrations and one's own experience of psychological symptoms most commonly anxiety and depression. By approaching psychotherapy through a person-centered, solution-focused, skills based perspective, I can assist individuals from diverse backgrounds. Our common goal is to create a path toward a quality of life that increases a sense of well-being, balance and happiness.

Struggles in your relationship can be overwhelming and confusing where you're constantly arguing over small things and feel a growing distance as a couple. "How did things get to this point and how do I fix it?" I want you to know that I understand because I have been in your shoes. I know the pain and frustration that comes with feeling disconnected in a relationship.

My approach integrates evidence based techniques such as Experiential, Emotionally Focused Therapy ( EFT ) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) focusing on present-moment experiences.
Hello! I'm Jessie! I used to think therapy was all about sitting in a room with a stranger asking, “How do you feel?” and having them nod at every response. I couldn't have been more wrong. I desire to create a space that is safe yet challenging, gentle yet dynamic, and structured yet flexible. I aim to tailor each session to your individual needs as a client. I love helping people with conflict resolution, communication, boundaries, mindfulness, depression, and anxiety.

I use attachment based theory and clinically proven emotionally focused therapy in my practice.
Being an immigrant, a child of an immigrant, a world traveler or an international student has left you feeling disconnected and like you don't belong. You feel alone even though you are among people, busy with school, work and life. You are not alone. Many of us, who uprooted ourselves by choice of our own or someone else, experience these feelings. These feelings are normal. You're human. The isolation and lack of belonging are exhausting and you long to feel better about your life and future.

I work collaboratively with individuals, couples and families to create a path toward specific goals for therapy. Throughout the years I have worked with people from all different walks of life, and I believe in the importance of individualizing treatment to each person and their experiences. I have extensive knowledge of eating disorders and have assisted people of all ages in better understanding and overcoming their disordered eating behaviors. I understand how alcohol and drug addiction, eating disorders, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, and trauma can leave you feeling disconnected from parts of yourself and others.

I believe that healing happens when we pay attention to all the parts that make us whole—our mind, body, and soul. My theoretical orientation is influenced by Family Systems, Attachment Theory, Emotionally-Focused, Humanistic-Experiential, and Narrative approaches to treatment. This means that we will be going on an emotional journey together in which I will use an eclectic combination of clinical theories and techniques to help guide my work. I believe that the lack of emotional awareness and avoiding uncomfortable emotions can cause harm to our mind, body, and soul. My hope is to help you get to know yourself better.

I am skilled in a range of therapeutic techniques, I practice eclectic approaches incorporating EMDR; Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples ( EFT ) Cognitive Behavior ; Solution Focused; Client Center and AEDP.
Everyone is destined to experience stress, loneliness, loss, illness, pain, self-defeating choices, uncertainty, relationship or work problems. Sometimes it's hard to know when to ask for help. Seeking therapy does not mean there is something wrong with us. Many individuals are concerned about getting labeled with a mental illness because they are struggling with life issues, traumatic events or troubled families. I am less interested in finding labels, and more interested in working with you to better understand your struggles and help you develop more successful coping techniques.

I mostly use an EFT model with couples and ACT in individual therapy.
I love working with professionals, students, and academics who, despite their intellectual prowess, are encountering difficulties in emotional regulation, interpersonal relationships, and existential issues. Because of my IT background, I especially like working with gamers, programmers, and introverts. Whether it is setting up a personal SLA for how you want to interact in relationships, applying RPG and other gaming paradigms to life, or having familiarity with life in the corporate world, we can quickly develop a shared understanding and language that reflects your world.

I am an EMDR Certified Therapist, have advanced training in Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy, Gottman Method Couples Therapy, ego state interventions, and CBT.
Do you feel like you and your partner are stuck in a place where you are misunderstood, out of synch, and angry- no matter how hard and how sincerely you try to connect? Does a part of you want to make positive choices and life improvements while another part of you feels stuck in pursuing activities that make you feel ashamed, lost, or numb? Or do you feel like the ways that you have coped for most of your life are no longer working or are getting in the way of you moving forward, but you aren’t sure how to change? This can feel so frustrating and confusing- you may not even feel like you can describe what it’s like for you!

I use the Emotionally Focused Therapy Model (based in attachment theory), which I find helps my clients to organize and understand reoccurring conflicts, and provides concrete tools for implementing positive change.
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who focuses on underlying relationship issues to help my clients experience a deeper sense of connection. If you have struggled with issues of trust, infidelity, constant fighting, family issues, low self-esteem, or feelings of disconnection, my style of therapy can help you discuss the themes that fuel the arguments and stand in-between connection. In a typical session, we can "map out" negative communication patterns and implement tools for some immediate relief so that you don't need to be in therapy long term.

Emotionally Focused Therapists

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?

People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?

Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?

EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
