I believe in all people’s innate capacity to heal. To me, all symptoms that we experience whether it be chronic pain, anxiety, depression, panic attacks, etc can be explained by trauma. Trauma does not have to be big events. Trauma can be if we are not attuned to emotionally as children or if our parents have their own unprocessed trauma—this sort of trauma often leads to deep seeded beliefs that we are unloveable and bad. Our healing comes from teaching our parts that we are loveable and accepted just as we are.

I am a Certified EMDR therapist and Consultant. I am passionate about helping people let go of the pain of the past, live more fully in the present and develop hope for the future. When you've grown up in a abusive, chaotic, or dysfunctional household it can be really hard to move beyond your past without help. This is especially true if you struggle with any kind of dissociation. It's not that you're weak or unwilling, it's that you don't yet have the tools and the help to do so. I can help you with those tools, while holding space for the reality of the culture and systems we find ourselves in that may continue to cause harm.

Trauma is something we all have in common. That statement will either completely resonate with you, or you’ll think it’s ridiculous with the belief, “well, I’ve never experienced trauma”. I would challenge the latter with your definition of trauma. There are what we call "big T" traumas, which are the catastrophic happenings in life. And "little t" traumas, which are the less significant but still impactful happenings; things like not getting the promotion you've been working towards, family tension, financial stressors, or even indirect exposure to something disturbing.

Neurofeedback is able to help children, teenagers, and adults who have experienced Trauma, Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), ADHD and Anxiety disorders as well as a variety of other mental health symptoms. Neurofeedback, also called EEG Biofeedback or brain training, helps train your brain to self-regulate and correct issues that impact your optimal functioning. A self-regulated brain improves the functioning of the central nervous system, mental performance, emotional regulation, and physiological stability. A dysregulated brain has difficulty calming down at appropriate moments, adding physiological symptoms.

I bring over 40 years of experience helping adults, couples, and families who may besuccessful on the outside but underneath feel alone, unhappy, burned out, or stuck in repeating unfulfilling patterns in relationships or at work. Many people come in for communication struggles, conflict, life transitions, career dissatisfaction, and discover that long-standing stress and early family dynamics are quietly shaping the present in ways they don’t want in their lives. Therapy provides insight and understanding, but more than that, it can change those “autopilot” ways of living that keep repeating and sabotaging what we really want.

As a Mental Health Therapist, I embarked on my journey of self-development in 2014, catalyzed by a life-altering panic attack during a traumatic event. Initially feeling isolated in my struggles, I sought help and immersed myself in various modalities aimed at nurturing my soul back to health. Through years of introspection and growth, I came to appreciate the profound significance of therapy as a safe haven, cultivating self-awareness, and harnessing the transformative potential of cognitive techniques. That's when I made the choice to transition from my role as an engineer to become a therapist.

Dissociative Disorders (DID) Therapists
How does therapy for dissociative disorders work?
Dissociation may be triggered by stress or other upsetting circumstances, and therapy can address the traumatic events at the core of an individual’s dissociation. Understanding why a person may dissociate can help the therapist and the individual come up with alternative methods of coping. A person with a dissociative disorder may get stuck on negative thinking, for example, and treatment like Cognitive behavioral therapy is a gold standard for breaking such thinking. And dialectical behavior therapy, for example, can help a person manage their anguish through better emotion regulation.
Which therapies are best for dissociative disorders?
Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, schema therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful memories and past traumas. These therapies work to integrate an individual's different identities into one person.
Are there specific medications for dissociation?
There are no specific medications prescribed for dissociative disorders. However, psychosis, depression, anxiety, and/or panic often co-occur in dissociative disorders. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for any accompanying symptom—which may include antipsychotics like aripiprazole, antidepressants like selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or anti-anxiety drugs like benzodiazepines.
How often and how long are therapy sessions?
Like any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. There are still other patients, especially those who have co-occurring conditions like depression and anxiety, who may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months.
