I treat a wide-range of mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, addictions, trauma, grief, and stress.
Do you hear your inner critic telling you “I am not good enough; I am not worth it?” Does it feel overwhelming to experience uncertainty in everyday life and relationships? My hope is to help you have greater quality of life, and achieve healing. Whether you wish to become a happier person, to feel less anxious, more confident, have better relationships, stop an unhealthy habit, or to simply understand yourself better, I can help you achieve this.

I offer a strengths-based approach in my work with clients who may be struggling with depression, anxiety, or trauma.
I work with queer individuals and couples, as well as folks who are neurodivergent, navigating identity, relationships, trauma, or simply the complexity of being human. My clients often come to me looking for a space where they don’t have to over-explain who they are, and where their lived experiences are met with understanding, not judgment.

It may be mindfulness-based treatment for anxiety or depression or cognitive behavioral therapy, or positive psychology.
Anxiety, mood shifts, health concerns and trauma all negatively impact our relationships at work and in our personal lives. It is often difficult to reach out for help from a professional. Yet with the right therapist, especially a doctoral level psychologist who is non-judgmental, respectful and skilled and understands these conditions, you don’t have to struggle in isolation anymore. My therapeutic approach is person centered, collaborative, compassionate, and strength-based. My goal is to work at a pace that is comfortable for you to tailor treatment to meet your personal needs. I am also attuned to culturally sensitive issues.

My clinical interests include life transitions, relationship issues, identity and interpersonal development, grief/loss, anxiety, depression, and trauma work.
I believe that early in life we develop ways to cope with difficult experiences and environmental situations that we couldn’t control and throughout life those cope mechanisms become reinforced. For many of us there comes a point where some of the ways that we learned to exist in the world no longer adaptively serve us. This is often a time we find ourselves in therapy. I want to help you gain insight into those patterns and develop new ways of being in order to make positive changes. These changes often come from both evidence-based tools and deeper reflections. I mainly work with BIPOC, immigrants, refugees, and survivors to navigate trauma, anxiety, depression, and major life transitions.
I've always been struck by the strength people have to keep going when the world hasn't made it easy. In my work, I've come to understand resilience not just as survival, but as a deep longing to feel safe, seen, and whole. Whether you're navigating the fallout of a breakup, feeling numb to things you used to love, or questioning your place in the world, therapy can be a space to come home to yourself. As a second-gen Asian American, my work is deeply shaped by the stories I carry - of my dad surviving a refugee camp after fleeing Vietnam, and my mom rebuilding her life after leaving China.

As a therapist who has worked with individuals with depression, anxiety, and trauma, I can help foster and guide you in cultivating hope.
Hope is something I would wish for my clients to take away in therapy. Everyone can benefit from feeling a little hope; cultivating hope can be a shield and a path to moving forward. In therapy, cultivating hope could look like creating clear and achievable goals that matter to you and speak to your values. It might also look like learning to be unafraid of uncertainties but rather be excited and curious about it. Cultivating hope in therapy also translates into learning that we all deserve to have healthy relationships, boundaries, respect, and genuine connection. Lastly, cultivating hope requires commitment and practice.

I work with individuals often struggling with relationship issues, depression, anxiety, trauma or addictions.
We all want to be happy, feel fulfilled, be at peace and enjoy our days free from chronic worry, painful memories, behaviors and relationships that interfere with peace in the present moment and beyond. Yet experience tells us that suffering is inevitable-it is a part of life. Healing is moving through and beyond suffering and limitation, transforming suffering into freedom and personal power. My practice focus is on strategies and practices to heal, transform and find meaning and purpose.

Depression Therapists

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognize and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioral activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
