I also work with couples on improving communication and building attachment.
If you have made it this far, chances are you are seeking something you haven’t yet found. You may just want someone to talk to or hold space for you. You may be hoping to explore and discover more about yourself, and utilize therapy to work through your barriers to growth and healing. I would be honored to be a part of your journey. I believe that therapy should be a safe space for folks to process, and is a collaborative effort between client and therapist. You may not feel it in this moment, but you are the expert of your experience.

The relationship roller coaster ride is a ride none of us enjoy.
I love to help couples, individuals, and parents with adult children restore and rebuild their relationships. If you struggle to break negative patterns in your relationships, feel far from your partner, or maybe don't sense God in your life anymore, I want you to know I understand what that is like. Your needs are valid and deserve to be seen and heard.

I specialize in working with couples and individuals who want to sharpen their understanding of themselves, discover their patterns of dysfunction in relationships, and dive deeper than ever before into creating and sustaining true intimacy.
Navigating our own emotions, life experiences, responsibilities, and relationships with others, all at the same time, is an exhausting process! We live in a society where it's commonplace for us to prioritize our obligations over even our most basic needs, at times. So when it comes to fulfilling each other's needs for love, belonging, and connection- we may notice ourselves feeling out of sync and continually misunderstood instead. We are complex beings. Relationships are even more complex. Typically the best way to achieve clarity is by bringing in a new perspective.

I enjoy working with Asian American or other BIPOC clients, including mixed race individuals or couples, holding space for exploration of relationships, attachment issues, identity and racial trauma.
Sometimes our best life can feel out of reach. A part of us feels stuck in cognitive or relational patterns that served us at one time, but do not serve us well anymore. We want to make some changes, but we find ourselves stuck. Poet Mary Oliver asked the question, "What will you do with this one wild and precious life?" I'm here to listen as you figure out how you want to answer this question, and to witness the work you need to do to get there. Our best selves, living our best lives, are within reach.

Through therapy, we’ll bring awareness to stuck patterns, so you will become more empowered in your relationship with yourself, others, and every area of your life.
If you've felt that no matter what you do or how hard you try, you keep running into the same issues. If so, your unconscious might be directing your life. I'll provide framework for discerning and healing specific roadblocks that keep you and your relationships from reaching their full potential.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
