I am passionate about helping youth and adults explore their own interests, motivations, and identity (gender identity as well as other “identities”).
Do you find yourself at a crossroad? Are you wondering what you want to do, who you want to be, or how you want to be seen by others? Maybe, you find yourself stuck -- feeling like you have few or no options, or possibly, with too many options. Or maybe, you are trying to figure out which of the many ideas shared with you by your family, friends, co-workers or the world are ideas that you want for yourself. If so, these tough questions can have significant effects on your thoughts, health, and wellbeing. If you feel you can't control your emotions and often hear a negative voice inside your head, you're not alone. Too often our thoughts connect our emotions, which dictate our behaviors, and lead us down familiar paths. Many of us follow our emotions that have been former out of our core beliefs and taught to us from a very young age with or without our knowledge. Core beliefs impact our decision-making on every level, and in our work together we will identify core beliefs to begin understanding the impact they have on your decision-making, thoughts patterns, and relationships.

Come enjoy the process of growth through therapy and become happier and more fulfilled. Life brings many unexpected blessings and challenges. We all love to cherish and celebrate the blessings. But what do you do when your relationship is rocky? How do you grieve the loss of a relationship or a loved one? How do you manage a disrespectful teenager? How do you find solutions for workplace challenges? How do you move from feeling isolated and misunderstood to feeling connected and loved? Seeking help when needed demonstrates strength and courage.

I work particularly well with emerging adults , athletes, and young professionals who are navigating life transitions and/or looking to heal past traumas.
Life can leave us feeling stuck and disconnected from ourselves and our communities. Often, symptoms are natural reactions to painful circumstances and foreclose access to our innate wisdom and ability to navigate tough situations. I believe in the unique healing journey of each individual and work with you to open space and reconnect with your authentic ways of being. I help folks get curious about their life, get unstuck from difficult patterns, make meaning of life experiences, and ultimately create more choice and freedom.

I specialize working with children, teens, adults and families.
Within the safety of a therapeutic relationship healing and change can occur. With a compassionate and caring therapist this process can unfold. It's possible to become the person you desire to be. Even with a good set of change making skills we can feel stuck and unable to access a pattern that worked before or create a new pattern. In therapy you can clarify what is keeping you stuck and change from within. Relationships with self and others can improve as a result of the therapeutic process.

Primarily I see individuals: cultural diversity, LGBTQ, and adults raised in alcoholic families.
I use an in-depth focus that has a practical application. I understand past and present difficulties within the context of family relationships. I think of each person as dynamic and changeable. When a person comes to me for help, I understand that person to be stuck in ways that are out of their conscious awareness. Work and/or relationship functioning can easily be blocked or limited. Changing is complex and requires the assistance of a skilled and caring professional. If you are ready to face the deeper issues interfering with your personal success, it is time to contact me.

How can I find a therapist in San Diego?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the United States, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
