I particularly enjoy working with individuals who are creative yet highly anxious and depressed. Innovators find an improved capacity to create with informed anxiety management. I am a harm reductionist who embraces the belief that addiction is a brain disease and not a character defect and that persons with addictive illness need more clinically-informed care. I support authenticity for both the client and the therapist, understanding that little can hurt us when we are at peace with the truth of our own stories.

It takes courage to set up your first therapy appointment, and it can be challenging to find the “right fit” in a therapist. With the right fit, you can determine: the struggles you have and ways to overcome them, what is important and meaningful in your life, how to feel better and heal from bad memories, and how to communicate better with loved ones. These are often the goals of therapy. They may seem simple, but sometimes we struggle and spend years feeling unhappy or unfulfilled. I have worked with clients for 27 years helping people find their clarity and truth and welcome your call to determine if I'm the "right fit" for you.

Working in the field of psychology for over 25 years, I’ve gained both professional and life experience. I’m an MFT and Psychologist. My specialties include: couple/individual/family therapy. Over the past 20 years, I’ve become established here in San Diego from Los Angeles where I completed my training, schooling and early career. In LA I began in social work with in-home foster care, expanding to mental health therapy for children and family systems. The treatment of individuals struggling with trauma, anxiety and depression has developed into deeper work with couples improving communication and safety in their relationships.

Change begins with one. Often we want that change to come from our partner, a friend, or maybe a family member. Life is a complicated web of relationships, all of which have an influence on how we react. You are here because something in your life isn't working. I am here to assist you in thinking about your situation in a different way. I work with individuals and couples who are struggling in their relationships with each other as well as in their personal relationship with self. I serve as a calm and empathic space for the process.

You just don't know what to do anymore. You're not even sure if therapy works, but you know you've got to do something different. You've tried to figure it out on your own and you feel stuck. Therapy can help if you're willing to put in the work, learn new skills and commit to using them. Yes, you can actually recover from anxiety, phobias and even traumatic experiences. And this is more than just learning to live with a psychological limp.

No one is an expert more on your life than you. However, sometimes inviting in trusted support helps you get perspective on your fears, disappointments, and confusion about next steps in life. No matter the season of life, asking for help is both courageous and what moves you forward. Your resiliency and your strengths are how you navigate through life’s challenges. You and your loved ones are not a diagnosis; being human is not a flaw but a strength to be honored. If you are trying to figure out if therapy is right for you, check out: NPR Life Kit: Start Therapy (https://one.npr.org/?sharedMediaId=975685219:975723299).

Self Esteem Therapists
Self-esteem lives on a spectrum: Not enough self-regard (or low self esteem) can lead people to become depressed, or to tolerate abusive situations and relationships. Too much self-love (or high self-esteem), results in an off-putting sense of entitlement and an inability to learn from failure. And it's occasionally a sign of clinical narcissism. Quite the opposite of being shy or shyness, yet still on the same spectrum.
