I have over 8 years experience in the mental health field, with a background in trauma awareness psychotherapy including Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to support clients in understanding and regulating thoughts, emotions and behaviors.
Hi, my name is Kayla and my hope is to continue to support individuals in navigating the effects of daily stress and anxiety to more complex issues of depression and post traumatic stress disorder. Whether it's learning to understand our own mental health or just gain a better understanding of our own thoughts and feelings, I believe that each of us hold the ability to heal, and in doing so, find what helps us thrive. My approach to each session is to provide a safe space for clients to be at ease in the present and gain clarity while exploring, challenging and healing core wounds, values and behaviors.

My work is grounded in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and I have advanced specializations in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD, and Exposure and Response Prevention.
I am a licensed clinical psychologist who has a warm and compassionate approach to therapy, which encourages active collaboration. I have a passion for walking alongside others in the midst of struggle. When you come to therapy, it’s like you are trying to climb a mountain; I am not at the top of your mountain but, rather, on another mountain, offering a different perspective, pointing out potential dangers, and helping you find the most effective path along your journey.

Suffering can be emotional pain, physical pain, pain caused by love, death, or even loss. Sometimes our suffering can be more than we can bear and we need help to understand the source of our pain and acceptance of it. Very often we are unaware of the thoughts that cause us pain. By becoming aware of the thoughts behind suffering, you can change the thoughts and promote peace. In other words, you can condition yourself to believe and behave differently and eventually suffering diminishes.

Trauma, anxiety, and addiction can make you feel stuck. The most important step towards healing is to address the unresolved emotion inside you. Healing requires feelings. Acceptance slowly dissolves pain. When we function from the fear and scarring of our trauma, the cycles continue until we learn how to transmute that energy into love. I apply a Holistic approach that integrates physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual forms of well-being, addressing the “whole” self. Through a holistic framework tailored to your unique needs, the goal is to support you develop a deeper understanding of the self on all these levels.

I approach therapy from a psychodynamic perspective while also implementing evidence-based interventions from CBT, DBT, an ACT.
I believe that everyone deserves to live a fulfilling life. To attain fulfillment, we must connect to our emotions, our past, the people we love, what we value, and our purpose. I view therapy as a collaborative process in which we work together to reach personal goals. My aim is to deepen my understanding of each person’s unique experience with warmth and compassion, helping individuals gain insight into themselves, and allowing them to confidently navigate life’s challenges while finding healing and purpose.

I have spent the last 16 years becoming formally trained in therapeutic models that are both restorative and result producing (Internal Family Systems, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Emotionally Focused Therapy).
Do you find yourself in a pattern of unsatisfying relationships and you are unsure why? I would like to help you figure out the reason and offer tailored support to find a meaningful relationship or help you transform your current relationship. In my experience one person changing can make a significant impact to the overall relationship. I also enjoy working with couples who are interested in improving their relationship together.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
