Female Therapists in Midtown District, San Diego, CA
Therapy is about exploring yourself and the way you interact with those around you to create opportunities for a greater experience in the world. This process of exploration allows you to develop an awareness of yourself, and of opportunities for growth and healing. My therapy style is eclectic, though I mostly utilize CBT, or Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I believe you already have the power to be happy within you, and I will assist you in discovering that power. Therapy happens outside of the therapy room, between sessions, which means there might be homework. The catalyst for change is you!

People often think therapy is just a place to vent—and it can be, because validation matters. But it’s also a space to be challenged, face fears, and take steps toward the life you deserve. That can be scary, which is why having a therapist helps. I’m not here to tell you what to do, but I will point out barriers in your way—even the ones you may be putting there yourself—so you can move past them. Therapy can be long-term, but it doesn’t have to be. My goal is to help you become your own therapist, so you eventually don’t need me.

You look like you have it all together, but inside you’re battling anxiety, self-criticism, and the fear of not being enough. The pressure to perform perfectly in your work, relationships, and life is exhausting. You lie awake replaying conversations, second-guessing decisions, and wondering why you can’t just “get over it.” Even when things seem fine from the outside, there’s a constant hum of worry, self-doubt, or the weight of past trauma that keeps you feeling stuck, disconnected, and running on empty. I offer in-person therapy in San Diego, CA, and online therapy across California, Indiana, and Ohio.

People often think therapy is a place to vent; it definitely CAN be that - validation is important. It can be scary, which is why having a therapist is so helpful. Expressive healing targets the whole person: mind, body and soul. Often times we face daily stress that compiles and when stress goes unmanaged it gets stored within us. Maybe you find yourself unable to sleep. Or perhaps stress gets stuck within your body and you experience chronic tension. If you’re consumed by worry or fears negatively affecting your quality of life and the attempts made with managing stress aren't providing the results you hoped for, you're not alone. Together we will work to address what systems have been in place in an effort to manage stress and assess the effectiveness while incorporating new coping skills.

EMDR is one of the most effective methods to stimulate the brain and body’s natural ability towards healing. EMDR is an evidence-based modality that uses eye movement, tapping, or sound to help the brain heal from difficult life experiences. EMDR can help with the treatment of PTSD, trauma, depression, and anxiety. This therapy is rewarding, and it could bring strength to situations that may have seemed hopeless.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
