As an inclusive therapist, I am focused on client care that is culturally affirming and that celebrates all identities and abilities. I use a strengths-based approach, focused on empowerment, in order to help the client find solutions tailored to their needs and create preferred narratives to their stories.

Anxiety can present itself in several different ways. To some, it can come off as a feeling of absolute overwhelm whereas others may experience it as a restless never-ending panic. In fact, some have found that making that first call to begin therapy can be a source of anxiety in of itself! Together, we can collaborate to uncover the sources of anxiety by exploring childhood experiences, memories that have shaped us and current day to day stressors. My goal is to provide you with tangible mindfulness skills such as breathing and grounding exercises to support you when feeling overwhelmed or triggered by life events.

I want you to know that it takes a lot of courage to reach out for support. I enjoy working with adults of any age who struggle with experiences like anxiety, depression, substance abuse, and other challenges that make life difficult. I position myself through a strength-based, client centered lens in my therapeutic work and believe that one way we make meaning of our lives is through our beliefs and the stories we tell. My goal is to facilitate these encounters and empower you towards reaching personal success through collaboration and a non-pathologizing approach. My approach is warm, culturally sensitive, and judgment-free.

Are you looking for a space to slow down and take a breath? It’s no secret that life can be chaotic, overwhelming, and oftentimes feel like it's running on auto-pilot. I can definitely relate to that feeling. From personal experience, I've come to see therapy as a saving grace, a time to slow down, get quiet, and let your inner voice and deepest truths arise without judgment or limitation. It's possible to gain a more deeply integrated and purposeful sense of life. I enjoy working with female-identified young adults and adults.

Welcome to Whole Integration Therapy! I'm Emily Walton, and I am a Licensed Clinicial Professional Counselor (LPCC). I work from a Relational approach to understand how your past is impacting your present. Working together, we can try new ways of relating in a safe and confidential space. While it is beneficial to work beyond the past, we must first know what we are working with. Once known, we move into targeted skills that focus on boundary development, interpersonal skills, communication, challenging unhelpful thoughts, self esteem/self concept/self identity, secure attachment within the therapeutic relationship.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the United States, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
