Therapy means many different things to different people. For some it is a journey of growth, self-awareness, and healing. For others it is necessary for them to survive. For some it is something they are mandated to do, and for many it is something they really want to do. No matter where you fall on this spectrum, I am here to support you through your process. Therapy is about where you are, where you want to go, what you want to explore, and joining you on your experience. I am here to listen, to guide you, focus you, support you and push you when needed.

Whether you're experiencing the same relationship conflicts over and over, are feeling ambivalent about having a child or need work on your parenting skills, or you're navigating anxiety, depression, infertility, separation, divorce, or co-parenting, I'm here for you. I know how powerful and transformative therapy can be, not just as a licensed marriage and family therapist, but as somebody who's also been a client. Like many of the people I work with, I've had to learn how to better understand myself, tune into my inner voice-to listen more deeply to my intuition, and to trust it. And I can help you do the same.

I believe that Spiritual healing is as important as emotional & physical healing. I began working as a christian counselor over 17+ years ago and I have witnessed authentic, holistic and complete healing from the inside out, within the lives of many. I am passionate about working with people, especially in the Faith-based community. One of the hardest things to do in life is to ask for help for yourself. Being a person who was always there to help others, I understand how difficult it can feel to reach out to a therapist. That's why my goal is to help my clients feel safe to open up and talk about what has been weighing on their minds and hearts. I am a first-generation Filipina-American who loves working and living in diverse communities. Through becoming a single mom, I learned that crisis is a time for change and growth. I'm also a dog-mom to a sweet English bulldog who snores like a bear!

Intervention Therapists
How does an intervention work?
An intervention is a planned, structured meeting in which a person’s family or friends voice concerns about the person’s behavior and its consequences; the goal is for the person to accept treatment. In this meeting, the person’s loved ones (often with the guidance of a trained interventionist) share how the person’s behavior has harmed them and the consequences if the person refuses treatment. They collectively ask the person to accept a proposed treatment plan.

How effective are interventions?
There isn’t extensive research on the efficacy of interventions, in part because success is difficult to measure. Individuals often enter addiction treatment after an intervention, for example, but treatment itself may not work, especially if the person only begins due to external pressure from others rather than due to internal motivation to change. However, if all other attempts at helping someone have failed, an intervention may be worth exploring.

What are the limitations of interventions?
While a friend or family member’s intentions are in the right place in wanting to help a loved one through an intervention, there are significant limitations to the approach. The surprising nature of the event can make the person feel ambushed or judged. They may feel embarrassed or ashamed as a result, and relationships may be strained or broken. This can make it difficult for the individual to be receptive to the concerns of their loved ones and the interventionist.

Are there alternatives to interventions?
Rather than confronting a loved one through an intervention, an effective and less pressured approach is to create space for a caring, open, one-on-one conversation. This works best if the loved one asks open-ended questions, listens attentively to the answers, and frames their observations and statements with concern rather than judgment. More than one conversation may be needed, but change can take root over time.
