My intention is to function as a compassionate guide to find the answers within you, perhaps buried under stress and trauma responses which allowed you to survive to this point in your journey.
I understand that words are not the only way to work in therapy. For children, play and art are a vital part of the therapy process. For all of us, the body has much to communicate if only we learn how to listen and heed what it tells us. So, in therapy, I seek to listen to your words, images, and body and guide you to tune into what your body has to say.

Do you feel as though your anxiety and depression are unmanageable? How about feelings of sadness, hopelessness, or helplessness like you’ve hit rock bottom and are struggling to find hope for tomorrow? Once we start to unravel the details of our past and trauma we give ourselves the ability to process feelings that we have long suppressed.
I utilize CBT to explore and reframe negative thought patterns, DBT to equip you with coping skills for anxiety & depression and psychodynamic therapy to understand your trauma and unconscious desire and promote insight for lasting change. I also specialize in eating disorders and addiction. I can help you prevent relapse and manage behavioral patterns.

I am passionate about helping people and learning about their lives. I believe that we are the authors of our own story and it is up to us to bring about change; however, sometimes we need a little guidance to get to where we want to get and overcome struggles that may seem out of our control. I believe that it is our responsibility to work towards our goals and heal from the things that continue to hurt us. I enjoy working with individuals of all ages, from all cultural backgrounds.

Trauma leaves a mark, but it doesn’t have to define you.
Sun Tzu wrote, “In the midst of chaos, there is also opportunity”. My work is rooted in the belief that even in our darkest moments, there lies the potential for profound healing and connection. Using the transformative power of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Internal Family Systems (IFS), I guide my individuals and couples on a journey to rediscover the bonds that nourish them and the strength that lies within. My ideal client is intrigued to dive into the pain that has been plaguing them for years. This client is interested in deep emotional work and looking for someone unafraid to accompany them into the darkness.

I am not my trauma, I am what I choose to become.
My training would be defined as "Cognitive Behavioral Therapy" but I engage in general therapy. This means that I will work with my clients to meet them where they are and use tools, interventions and approaches that respect their person and strives to align with who they are. I am here for the client and make it a point to engage on a humanistic level. I am not a therapist who sits in a chair and asks "how does that make you feel?" I am a therapist who wants to actively help you identify your goal(s) and come up with a plan for you to reach them. I will not waste your time and I am invested as much as you are.

Unresolved childhood issues, grief, and/or trauma can negatively impact your understanding of self and view of others.
Nothing is more difficult than relationships. And nothing means more to you. All of us are hard-wired to be in relationship, to care for and be cared for by others. But what do you do when differences lead to never-ending battles because you never get close to the real issues? Or when withdrawal leads to resentments that are never addressed at all. I would like to help you remember your strengths that brought you together in the first place, feel relief as you share what is important to you, and appreciate each other's differences, which may really be a strength.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
