You are worried about your child. They have started to show signs of anxiety or depression which is starting to make you concerned. You try to lighten the mood when you can, but it is getting harder everyday. You never know what might make them upset and feel completely lost on what to do. You feel bad about the tension in the home and hate arguing with them, but sometimes its's the only thing you can do to get them to listen. You feel worried about what they may be thinking or doing like self-harm or
suicidal
thoughts and that terrifies you.

As a psychotherapist, I’ve worked with various populations and people facing different challenges, including depression, anxiety, trauma, substance use,
suicidal ideation
and self-harm.
Whether you’re struggling with a crisis, life transition, feeling overwhelmed, or finding yourself stuck in unproductive patterns, there is no need to navigate this on your own. Therapy is about exploring the self in a way that allows you to grow through self-discovery. I focus on meeting clients where they are and seeing the world from their perspective, and go together from there.

I've taken training courses in trauma, mindfulness, tele mental health,
suicide
prevention, racial trauma, trauma for children, self regulation and play therapy and more.
I'm looking to work collaboratively with you to tackle the problems you bring into the therapy session. My goal of therapy is for you to leave the session feeling even just a little bit better than when you walked in. That’s a small step in the right direction and small steps count big in my room. I enjoy working with children to helping them explore and identify their emotions. I encourage clients to be their authentic self with me, as I am with them, and work based on your pace.

Many of my clients struggle with relationships, life transitions, feelings of isolation, school demands, perfectionism, career decisions, parenting, body image, depression, anxiety, family issues, trauma, sexual orientation, and
suicidal ideation
.
I believe that each one of us has a genuine need to feel valued and connected. I also believe that connection is the foundation in our lives. We all need to find our purpose and find a place where we can belong to something bigger than ourselves. Sometimes our inability to connect with others can leave us feeling empty, hopeless or insecure. It can cause us to isolate, tolerate unhealthy relationships, abuse substances or lose our direction. When we learn to build healthy connections and find our purpose, we are more likely to experience hope and fulfillment. I am a licensed clinical social worker with 30+ years of experience.

People come to me because they are struggling and tired. They are struggling in their relationships with others and with themselves. Often, that includes self harm or
suicidal
thoughts. They might be told they tend to overreact, are dramatic, or intense. Many are struggling with identity - gender, sexuality, race - and acceptance. My clients want to feel more balanced and in control.

Suicidal Ideation Therapists
How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?
Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioral therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.
Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?
Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.
Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?
The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.
How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
