I love working with children using a combination of child-directed play therapy, mindfulness, and emotional intelligence-building skills.
I have almost 20 years of experience working with wonderful children and young adults with difficult behaviors and struggles, and their families. I have been running my private practice for 6 years and, 4 years ago, started building a farm sanctuary where I hold children’s therapeutic camps and equine assisted and farm play therapy. I have a lot of unique training and education that sets me apart. I am a skilled big picture thinker and can help guide you and your family through the process, gaining clarity along the way. I am playful and gentle in my therapy, and easily connect with my clients, big and small, authentically.

Through mindfulness we bring quiet presence to grasping and rejecting habits.
If you are feeling down, coping with an overwhelming life change, or seeking more out of life and relationships, we can help. Accepting you right where you are with compassion and mindful presence are the cornerstone of our practice. Creating space for you to be, just as you are, problems, guilt, shame, disappointment and all, can be very healing. Once you feel heard and accepted, you can start opening to the guidance of your emotions, identifying blocks to joy, healing and recovery. This creates the space for goal setting and planning.

You don’t have to keep holding everything together on your own. As an Asian-American therapist, I understand the quiet pressure to succeed, caretake, or “not make waves.” Many of my clients are high-achieving, thoughtful, and exhausted from masking—whether that’s navigating cultural expectations, family dynamics, or being neurodivergent in a world not built for their brains.

I use trauma-informed, Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy, along with mindfulness and relational approaches.
Clients often tell me they leave sessions feeling better because they finally have an understanding of what is happening inside of them and how to best move forward with the different obstacles they are facing. They essentially say, they feel “unstuck.” I love working with teens and adults. I aim to guide individuals in exploring their internal system, comprised of different parts that influence their thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. Have you ever said, “Well, a part of me thinks this, but another part thinks that?” It’s true that often we can see several sides to an issue.

You may be feeling anxious, stressed, or stuck in patterns that aren’t working, whether at school, in friendships, parenting, or at work. My clients often want to better understand their thoughts and emotions, feel more confident in personal and romantic relationships, or build tools to manage life’s stressors. You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. You might just need a safe, encouraging space to sort things out, feel more in control, and start moving forward with more confidence and clarity.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists
How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
