Are you seeking answers to your child's learning -related needs. A thorough evaluation is needed to accurately diagnose or "rule out" a Specific Learning Disorder (like dyslexia, dysgraphia, or dyscalculia), ADHD / “ADD,” Autism, or an Intellectual Disability. An assessment will result in recommendations based on your child's unique learning profile. Some clients seek testing for other reasons. For example, a college student who has a disability may be entitled to accommodations in school, including exams. An assessment is adapted to meet each client's needs. As a highly skilled Licensed Educational Psychologist, I can help.

I have done a lot of work with addiction, autism spectrum disorders, learning disabilities, as well mental health issues.
There comes a time in people’s lives where what they have done isn’t working and they want to develop new coping skills. I feel I can help aid in that transition. I feel it's important to build rapport and trust with a client and not be stuck in only one form of modality, be flexible and utilize what the client may need at that time. With that being said I have a lot of techniques and modalities that I can pick from from CBT, DBT, mindfulness and trauma based techniques like brainspotting.

Problems are solved in the present moment so my focus involves learning how to deal with past regrets and future worry.
Sometimes we want change because we are suffering, or stuck, or we’d like to be happier. Maybe we’d just like to be a better partner or a better parent. Regardless of the motivation, the work is to become the best version of ourself, i.e. a fully functioning adult. Old habits, reactions, emotions, and limiting beliefs keep us repeating old patterns. Recognizing and healing the wounds that underly the patterns frees us to know what is best for ourself. And when we know that we can move forward and we are able to be generous in relationships with those we love.

Educational difficulties may stem from learning disabilities, ADHD, or psychological concerns.
Therapy can be a completely different experience depending on the people involved. My style of therapy involves getting to know my client and helping them use their strengths to improve their life. Often client's overlook their own strengths while identifying with their diagnosis, failings, or past. I am often amazed at the strength and resilience of individuals and look forward to helping them find it within themselves. In therapy the relationships between the clinician and client is the primary element toward improvement. I work hard to keep the relationship strong and growing.

Evaluations can identify a range of diagnoses, including ADHD, learning disabilities, developmental delay, dementia, TIAs, TBI, anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, and Autism spectrum disorders.
I offer both therapeutic and diagnostic services. In therapy, clients who benefit most are motivated to work toward change. They seek to improve their moods and progress toward their goals, whether related to relationships, careers, or health. I also supervise an unlicensed psychologist who specializes in working with children and adolescents. She helps them improve family and peer interactions, handle emotional challenges, and master self-control. I’m committed to a practice centered around empathy, caring, and acceptance. I believe establishing deep connections with clients leads to helping them achieve their goals.

How effective is treatment for learning disabilities?

When initiated early and tailored to a child’s specific needs, learning disability treatment can be quite effective at helping a child cope with their disability, though its exact efficacy may depend on the severity of symptoms and whether comorbid disorders exist. Less is known about treatment initiated in adulthood, but it is certainly possible that an adult with a learning disability will see some improvement—or at the very least, identify workarounds and accommodations that could make symptoms less burdensome in day-to-day life.

When should someone seek treatment for learning disabilities?

It’s best to seek treatment as early as possible. Because learning disabilities often go unnoticed until a child starts school, or even until they’re a few years along, regular check-ins with teachers and doctors can help parents determine whether children are meeting milestones and keeping up with peers or whether an evaluation for learning disabilities may be warranted. And although earlier is always better, it’s never too late to be evaluated for learning disabilities and to seek treatment.

What happens if learning disabilities are left untreated?

Undiagnosed and untreated learning disabilities can be a source of significant frustration and shame for a child, who may feel that their challenges stem from a lack of intelligence or willpower. Such feelings can trigger low self-esteem, depression, or anxiety, which may push a child toward risky behaviors, including substance use. In adulthood, untreated learning disabilities can interfere with career success, and lingering feelings of self-doubt and shame can negatively affect someone’s mental health.

Are there medications for learning disabilities?

Currently, there are no medications designed to treat specific learning disabilities such as dysgraphia or dyscalculia. However, someone with a learning disability may be prescribed medication for a comorbid condition, such as anxiety, depression, or ADHD, which may have positive downstream effects on their learning disability; for example, a child with both ADHD and dyslexia may find that they’re better able to focus on their reading exercises after being prescribed a stimulant medication.
