Hello, my name is Nancy Rarick, license number is 35274. I have been a licensed therapist for 30 years. Currently, I only have a telemedicine practice which enables me to see clients throughout California. My approach to therapy varies based on the needs of my client. I use cognitive behavioral therapy, focused solution therapy, and am trained in EMDR and DBT. Because I am a registered nurse, I am passionate about health and wellness and feel physical well-being is synergistic with good mental health.

I believe that being able to understand and name one's struggle is a big part of the therapeutic progress. So, let's work together, in an attempt to go beyond the symptoms, let's work on facing the root of the struggle and start looking for ways out. It is not an easy battle (addressing the root of the struggle) and yet it is the only way to freedom and healing. I specialize in eating disorders and related struggles. Also offer services to parents who struggle with inability to manage their children's behaviors. If you feel like you hit the rock bottom, your child is out of control, you don't know where to start, I am here to help.

My focus is on working with youth and adults who carry unique emotional and psychological sensitivities. My style, that embodies more of humanistic and holistic approaches, has proven to be very effective with individuals who are connected to spiritual or creative energies; individuals such as artists, healers and LGBTQ, who struggle with self acceptance, self esteem, anxiety and depression. My aim is to help you find and acknowledge all parts of yourself, heal and embrace them all, in order to create a complete and wholesome you.

Big emotions can feel too heavy to hold alone—especially for young people navigating loss, trauma, or the painful weight of not feeling “good enough.” In this space, children and teens are gently supported as they move through sadness, fear, anger, confusion, or shame—at their own pace, and in their own way.
Whether the pain is fresh or carried quietly for years, this is a space where each story matters. No pressure to “fix” anything—just room to feel, explore, and be exactly who they are. This space is LGBTQIA+ affirming, neurodivergent-inclusive, and culturally sensitive. Everyone is met with warmth and respect they deserve.

I commend you for reaching out to the possibilities therapy may offer. Change begins in this moment. Life can feel unmanageable. We experience the joys and challenges of relationships. The relationship may be with ourselves: inner struggles, uncertain goals, questioned values, addictive tendencies and confusion as to why we "do what we do". The relationship may be with another. The relationship may call upon us to clarify our expectations, to establish personal boundaries, to develop flexibility, to reflect on co-dependence, to improve our communication style and to open ourselves to change.

As of June 2025: I am accepting new clients. I primarily meet with clients online but I also offer in-home therapy as well as in-person in the community for OCD & Social anxiety. I'm fortunate that I figured out that I wanted to help others when I was 19. My approach is pro-active & encouraging. We'll examine your thinking patterns and practice skills to reduce uncomfortable feelings. For anxiety, I'll help you face worries gradually to set you up for success. Your accomplishments are mine too. Since emotional issues often impact relationships, I offer family sessions as well.

Hoarding Therapists
What is the most effective treatment for hoarding?
Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) has been well-studied in the treatment of hoarding. This type of therapy includes changing beliefs surrounding possessions, as well as learning how to discard items and reduce acquisitions. The hoarder may also gain much-needed organizational skills. Another useful therapy may be compassion-focused therapy, which can address emotion regulation and negative self-perception.
How long does therapy for hoarding take?
Although treatment can vary, most people demonstrate improvement after 23 sessions, with some showing improvement after just a few sessions. Researchers have developed a 26-session cognitive behavioral program. People who hoard may need “maintenance” sessions over the years if the problem arises repeatedly.
Are there medications for hoarding?
The more commonly-prescribed medications for hoarding are including antidepressants, including selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), and serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs). This can include drugs such as venlafaxine and paroxetine. And because hoarding disorder is related to obsessive-compulsive disorder, medications for OCD, such as clomipramine, may be effective for hoarding as well.
Can hoarding come back after treatment?
Hoarding is a chronic disorder and it can last throughout an individual’s lifetime. Regularly checking in with a psychotherapist can help manage symptoms long-term. A good therapist will help the person learn needed skills including decision-making, organization, and stress reduction. The patient will gain a better perspective and the need to cling to useless items will lessen.
