Perhaps you are having difficulties in your primary relationships, perhaps there are stressors at work, perhaps you face a great choice and several obstacles are hindering your clarity and peace. I have been honored to witness individuals and couples overcome many barriers that initially seemed insurmountable. Based on the lived experience of those I work with I believe that a full, happy, and peaceful life is within reach for everyone who seeks it.

I'm a mental health and addictions counselor with over 11 years of experience supporting individuals and couples. In my work with individuals, my main focus is the therapeutic relationship and an insight-oriented process. Research shows that the therapeutic alliance is a key factor in successful therapy, and it remains the one thing chatbots, apps, and self-help books can’t replace. My approach is therefore humanistic and psychodynamic. With empathy, acceptance, and compassion, I help you explore the patterns that have kept you stuck and foster the insight needed to finally break free.

Have you or a loved one struggled with alcohol or drug dependency? Allow me to help you on your journey to recovery. At Life Steps Consulting, we know that life is full of different transitions, which can be broken down into a series of steps. When you are struggling with substance abuse, movement through the transitional steps halts, causing you to fall into unhealthy life cycles, which impact your career goals, relationships, physical and mental health. I can help you get back on track. I not only have studied the disease of alcohol and drug addiction, but I have been there and I know how you feel.

Whether it's obsessive thoughts, social discomfort, phobias, perfectionism, or distress around food, you may feel stuck in a cycle of overthinking, avoidance, and disconnection from the present moment. My goal is to help you break that cycle - so you can make choices aligned with the life you want, not the fears holding you back. Previously, I developed the nation's first ACT + Exposure Therapy (ERP) protocol for OCD at the Intensive Outpatient Program level. Now, I bring that same innovation and care to my private practice. ERP can sound a little scary, but it doesn't have to be. I'm happy to explain more about it.

I commend you for reaching out to the possibilities therapy may offer. Change begins in this moment. Life can feel unmanageable. We experience the joys and challenges of relationships. The relationship may be with ourselves: inner struggles, uncertain goals, questioned values, addictive tendencies and confusion as to why we "do what we do". The relationship may be with another. The relationship may call upon us to clarify our expectations, to establish personal boundaries, to develop flexibility, to reflect on co-dependence, to improve our communication style and to open ourselves to change.

How do gambling rehabilitation programs work?
There are both inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation programs. However, for some individuals, an outpatient facility may not offer enough hands-on care, and for other individuals, an inpatient facility may be too much. Both types of care have knowledgeable health professionals including physicians (in the case of residential programs), psychologists, counselors, psychotherapists, and recovered mentors.

How do gambling 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Abstinence and maintenance are key for 12-step gambling disorder programs. Individuals in a 12-step group rely on each other for support and accountability. In addition, there is often a spiritual element to these programs, whereby belief in a higher power can help the individual overcome their tendencies. If an individual genuinely wants to cease gambling, attending a 12-step program along with regular psychotherapy can be highly effective.

How long does therapy take for gambling disorder?
Recovering from gambling disorder takes time and effort. There’s no precise timeline for treatment, but a person can see change if they stick with therapy and if they have the will and desire to stop. Treatment for gambling disorder requires honesty in therapy, a commitment to understanding triggers, as well as the development of coping skills. Making lifestyle changes is also important, such as staying away from lotteries, online gambling, and casinos.

Is relapse a problem for those with a gambling disorder?
Gambling disorder is often chronic and can be life-long; therefore relapse may present a problem for some individuals. But effective treatment can bring a person’s life under control. To remain healthy and on track, the individual may need to regularly check in with their support group or psychotherapist. Frequently refreshing their tools of recovery can be helpful.
