You’re not looking for another place to vent, you want movement. I’m straightforward and steady, and I’ll be with you in the hard parts without letting you stay stuck. Together we’ll slow things down, name what you’ve been carrying alone, and get honest about the patterns (control, perfectionism, people-pleasing, shutting down) that keep you tense and second-guessing yourself. We’ll go deep, then make room to decompress so you leave feeling lighter, clearer, and in charge of your next step.

I have been in private practice for 40 years, providing psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic psychotherapy. Each person is unique and I strive to listen carefully to you and your life history. I create a treatment plan that is unique to you. My approach addresses the underlying, mostly unconscious beliefs, emotions, and expectations that create problems in life. This approach is appropriate for many different issues as it addresses the deep causes of difficulties. The changes you make in psychoanalytic psychotherapy are deep and enduring and eliminates the need for symptoms as coping strategies.

Many of the people I work with feel discouraged by what seems like a never-ending battle against themselves, their eating disorder behaviors, and sometimes even their treatment providers.
In my practice, I draw on my experiences working in residential, partial hospital, and outpatient eating disorder treatment, as well as evidence-based approaches like DBT, ACT, and IFS. I also support clients navigating co-occurring issues such as suicidality, trauma, and self-harm and am comfortable supporting clients pursuing harm reduction.

Specializing in anxiety, depression, body image, self-esteem, and disordered eating, I offer individual art and talk therapy for adolescents and adults.
Do you have an inner critic that impacts how you think and feel? Does your mind get overwhelmed with negative thoughts about yourself or your body? Do you long to build a stronger relationship with yourself? Self-criticism, spiraling thoughts, and negative self-talk can be exhausting and harmful to self-esteem and well-being. The way we treat ourselves and our bodies becomes tied to our identities, it shapes how we view the world and is eventually embedded in the values we hold and assign to ourselves.

I have been working in mental health for close to 15 years with experience in a variety of settings including eating disorder treatment (IOP and PHP), managed healthcare, and private practice.
You're here because something isn't working and you're finally ready to face it. Maybe it's a relationship that's falling apart, a painful betrayal, difficulties with food and feeling comfortable in your body, or a growing sense that you've lost yourself. You've likely already done a lot of thinking (and maybe some therapy), but you need more than just insight—you want change. My clients are thoughtful, resilient, but often at a crossroads. They're looking for clarity, direction, and a therapist who won’t just listen, but help them figure out what’s really going on and how to move forward.

A lot of us see couples therapy as a last ditch effort. We think only couples with "big problems" go to therapy. We may even secretly wonder if by simply considering couples counseling, we've admitted the relationship is faulty, broken, or bad. Let's be real. Have you ever met a single person who has never had an argument with their partner? Being in a relationship is freaking hard! It can even feel impossible. And sometimes those fancy "communication skills" we try out seem to just help us destroy each other with even greater efficiency. There is more to it than just skills, and I want to help you.

The Therapist for People Who Don't Like Therapy... My biggest goal in therapy is to get you out of my office and back into your life! With that said, I have found that most people, at some point in their life, could benefit from some professional listening and feedback. Our friends and family are great sources of support, but are often too closely involved to provide the kind of unbiased perspective that we need to help us out of a rut or to enact the true change that we really desire.

Eating Disorders Therapists
What happens in therapy for eating disorders?
In therapy for eating disorders, patients typically describe their eating and exercise behaviors, their patterns of eating in relation to stress, their beliefs about their body, the ways their eating behavior affects their relationships, and their desire (or lack of it) to change. Such information helps the therapist understand the origins of the disorder and the role it plays in the patient’s life, important for guiding treatment. Attitudes and feelings about food and eating, body weight, and physical appearance are common topics of discussion throughout treatment.
What therapy types help with eating disorders?
Once any acute medical or psychiatric emergency is resolved, psychoactive medication is often prescribed, requiring the supervision of a psychiatrist. In addition, patients receive some form of nutritional counseling along with one or more forms of psychotherapy. For adolescents, family-based treatment is empirically validated and considered the first line of treatment; parents and their children meet weekly with a clinician as the adults are coached on how to nourish and psychologically support the young patient. Adults typically receive some form of individual psychotherapy, intended to resolve the cognitive and behavioral disturbances that underlie the disorder and to relieve the mood disturbances that accompany it. In addition, patients may also be helped by group therapy.
What is the goal of therapy for eating disorders?
The most immediate goal of treatment for eating disorders is to save the life of people who are on a path of starving themselves to death or engaging in eating patterns that are doing irreparable physical harm to their body. Once the acute medical danger is past, therapy is required to understand the nature of the disordered eating and/or exercise patterns, establish healthy eating behavior, and to tackle the many erroneous beliefs and distorted self-perceptions that underlie eating disorders and continue to pose a threat to health and life. Therapy also addresses the impaired mood that not only accompanies eating disorders but intensifies the danger to health and life.
What are the limitations of therapy for eating disorders?
Therapy can be very helpful for eating disorders—but that can happen only after people recognize they have a condition that must be treated. Especially with anorexia, the distortions in self-image that accompany the disorder can keep people from acknowledging they have a problem. Individuals may in fact see their eating disorder as a badge of self-control. Those with binge-eating disorder may feel too ashamed to seek help. Therapy cannot help those who do not avail themselves of it.
How long does therapy last for eating disorders?
Because of their complexity, recovery from eating disorders is usually a long-term process—measured in months and years— often marked by setbacks and relapse. Some form of help, such as individual or group therapy, may be advisable for much of that time. It is a general rule of thumb that the longer the illness has endured and the dysregulated eating behavior has taken root, the longer treatment is likely to be needed.
