Domestic Abuse Therapists in Sacramento, CA

I work with people living with all types of HIGHLY complex PTSD—including survivors of narcissistic abuse, and domestic violence.
That’s the kind of damage I sit with.
The kind that rearranges how you breathe, speak, trust, and move through the world. The kind that’s hard to name but even harder to carry alone. I work with people who’ve lived through what others deny, dismiss, or can’t handle hearing. This isn’t about recovery as compliance. It’s about finding what’s real and building from there—on your terms.
What you’ve carried is real. So is the way you’ve survived it. We start with there, so you no longer have to carry these painful traumas alone.

I prefer a holistic biopsychosocial model for understanding and treating substance abuse.
After splitting time between a non-profit community center and private practice for a number of years, I am now solely focused on private practice. I am excited about the opportunity to continue my work with individuals, couples, families and children. I approach my work with respect, cultural awareness and a strong belief in self-empowerment. Our time together will be supportive, collaborative, focused and goal driven. Although I am continually learning and searching for what works, Reality Therapy/Choice Theory is my primary theoretical approach. I also regularly use Feedback Informed Treatment measures.

We help kids, teens, and adults heal from things like trauma and abuse.
As a BIPOC and LGBTQ+ affirming practice, we understand having a therapist who lived it themselves is so much more important than having one who just read about it in a book. That's why we emphasize identity and culture in our practice of mental health treatment and always welcome the whole client.

My strengths: Addictions, couples, domestic violence, infidelity, interpersonal conflict, parenting, peak performance, relationships, and trauma.
Relationships are as important to us as food and water. They can strengthen us, like a vitamin, or weaken us, like the flu. You are only as good in relationships as the relationships you have been in. As your therapist I can assist you in many ways. I can help you learn more about yourself, increase both self-compassion and compassion for others, and heal past trauma. Together, we can explore how to feel more connected to yourself, your values, and people you care about.

Finally, I am energized by working with people who want to end a cycle of abuse.
I often work with people who grapple with hard questions to which there is no one "right" answer. I offer a non-judegmental atmosphere in which each person can seek his or her own answers. Therapy is a co-creation. I work with each person to find what "speaks" to him / her. That may include talking, mindfulness practices, or creative arts therapies. Using these methods accesses parts of the brain that can't be reached through words alone, and puts people in the flow of their wisdom and creativity, from which solutions to problems can emerge.

If you want to talk clinical terms, the bulk of my career has been working with folks who have struggled with sexual assault, domestic violence, and eating disorders.
Hey fellow humans!
My name is Areeba and I'm your friendly neighborhood therapist. Life is hard. Finding a sense of peace and a foundation to stay grounded in when it feels like everything is out of control is hard. I'm here to help make it easier. I'm here to help you "weather the storm", "navigate the rough seas", or whatever cheesy life metaphor you want to use. The point is, I can help detangle the jumble of thoughts and feelings in your head, help you see who you are and what you believe in a little more clearly, and help you anchor yourself in a foundation that makes navigating life a little easier.

Domestic Abuse Therapists
What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?
Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.
When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?
Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.
What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?
Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.
How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?
It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
