A trusting and genuine relationship with your therapist is the most important part of the therapeutic process. This is why, despite the theoretic perspective, I strive to accomplish an authentic relationship with each and every person, family or couple that comes to see me. Whether your goals are to recover from trauma, evolve or repair your relationships, or to build a happier sense of a self, it all starts with a trusting well defined attachment to your therapist. Thank you for reading my profile and I look forward to hearing from you.

Through my therapeutic journey, I have learned: two things can exist at the same time; conflict does not always mean the end of a relationship ; repair work is essential in maintaining healthy relationships and how we respond/react to others' perceived behaviors says a lot about our own experiences.
When you walk into a space with me, you will find a therapeutic space filled with acceptance, safety, empathy and curiosity. I hope you will feel a comfort to be your unique self. I bring into the space my authentic self to support you in uncovering your individual needs and goals. My diverse background consists of my upbringing in the Punjabi and Western culture. I have experienced the disconnect between the two cultures firsthand and hope to provide a safe space to discuss the impacts of intergenerational trauma within all cultures. In this confidential space, I welcome all populations and backgrounds (race/ethnicity/sexuality).

I work collaboratively with my clients to build a strong therapeutic relationship and offer an individualized approach to treatment for each person.
Life can be an overwhelming experience for anyone. Things can become especially challenging when a person feels stressed by circumstances beyond their control. Individuals who come to therapy are often very capable human beings who have experienced something in their life that has left them needing some extra support. Many times people begin therapy feeling down and lost. Through a person's work in therapy, they are often able to find some light on their path to help guide them through the pain. This shift creates an opportunity for a person to improve their day-to-day functioning and overall, they FEEL BETTER!!

Patients often tell me how they feel fed up, hopeless, lost, and exhausted by the time they seek out a therapist. Many folks in my practice are Asian American adult children of immigrants who experience painful conflicts within their family of origin that lead to separation, emotional distance, or even estrangement. I also work with individuals and couples who feel stuck in frustrating repetitive patterns in their thoughts and behaviors, negatively impacting their ability to find enjoyment in their lives and in their relationships. Therapy can give you a space to speak freely and listen to yourself in new and different ways.

I actively try to build a positive relationship with my client so they will feel comfortable interacting with me.
Are you experiencing anxiety, grief, sadness, anger, trauma, or stress from daily life? My goal is to help you explore your core strengths to improve your emotions, build better relationships, or strengthen perceived weaknesses. As a therapist I've provided treatment services in a variety of settings residential, behavioral/mental health, elementary/ high schools grades K-12th, and private practice. In each settings I've found the most common reason for a client not seeking help earlier, fear of being judged. I'm here to actively listen, offer coping skills and techniques to help you better understand problems and solve them.

I am trained in EMDR, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT Tapping), Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP), Polyvagal Theory, Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and many other theories that inform the treatment I provide.
My ideal client is an individual seeking powerful change and who is also willing to look beyond traditional talk therapy to achieve it. As the field of psychology changes and grows, I believe it is important to adapt with it. As important as talk therapy can be to achieving stability, there are other valuable contributions that process trauma and transform the self without the discomfort of verbally processing painful memories. I combine both insight-oriented talk therapy and body based therapies such as the Safe and Sound Protocol, EMDR, and EFT Tapping for optimal, rapid, results.

Try as we might, sometimes happiness and contentment always seem just out of reach. Depression, anxiety and stress can make getting out of bed in the morning a daunting task. Troubles in your relationship or conflict in the family can make you feel helpless or overwhelmed. You don’t like yourself and never feel good enough at work or around certain people. Maybe you just can’t quite put your finger on exactly what is wrong, you just know you don’t want to hurt anymore. We want you to know that there is HOPE. Things can get better.

Couples and families often get caught in patterns of negative interactions, fraught with misunderstandings and resentments.
What do you want? What are you doing to get it? Is it working, and if not, what can you do differently? Your personal goals for therapy, once defined, will be at the heart of our work together. I'll support you in applying your strengths, deepening your sense of connection to yourself and those you love, and finding healthy ways to relate to negative thoughts, feelings and behaviors. Suffering is part of the human condition, but together, we can learn to respond to it skillfully. Slowing down, healing and integrating life experiences will be our focus!

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
