My initial training was grounded in psychodynamic theory which still shapes my thinking.
Hello... I would welcome talking with you in person or on the phone about what you are looking for and what I think I might be able to offer you. Together, we'd decide about the goodness of our fit. In my practice I work mainly with adults in individual or couple therapy as well as with psychotherapists who want consultation, particularly consultation that incorporates their personal psychological work. I bring 25+ years of experience to the practice of psychotherapy and continue to feel grown and deepened by this process.

Hi there! Welcome to one more step in your search for the life you want. Therapy is one way to increase joy, be reminded of whats wonderful about yourself, and overcome the barriers that have blocked you in the past. It also gives you the tools to continue that process. Collaboratively we strengthen your sense of worth so that you have the energy and motivation to work toward your personal goals. Increasing self-compassion and awareness frees an individual from the habits or ruts we all tend to dip into in life.

I utilize Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Narrative, and a Psychodynamic approach to work with teens and adults experiencing low self-esteem, grief, anxiety, depression, codependency, major life transitions, self-harm, and leadership and spirituality issues.
It can be difficult and uncomfortable to talk to someone we barely know about our thoughts and feelings, especially if they are upsetting to us. At some point in our lives, we will need someone to walk with us for awhile. Therapy is about me walking with you. I consider this a privilege and love helping people see how valuable they are, no matter what they have gone through.

Do you struggle with feelings of anxiety, depression, guilt or low self-esteem? Do you find yourself avoiding social engagements or so preoccupied with excessive worrying? Finding ways to navigate these difficult feelings can help you get back on track. I use a psychodynamic approach and CBT that focuses on uncovering patterns of behavior and ways of relating to ourselves and others that are often outside of our awareness. I also consider how our past impacts who we are today. Through acceptance and empathy, we will establish a trusting therapeutic relationship and work together toward your personal growth and self-discovery.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
