Do you often feel anxious, sad, or resentful in relationships? Perhaps you believe you can’t have the relationships you want or find yourself asking “why does this keep happening to me?” You might have a pattern of choosing partners who are emotionally unavailable. You know something feels off, but you’re not exactly sure why or what to do about it. If any of these signs are familiar, it’s okay. It’s not your fault and you’re not broken. I work with
women
to resolve old trauma wounds and learn new ways of relating with themselves and others. My approach is both clinical and casual and my medicine is warm, funny and nurturing.

As an Indigenous (Northern Sierra Miwok)
woman
and scholar, I greatly appreciate the complex individual and collective contexts and narratives that each of us embody and enact.
Are you feeling overwhelmed or “stuck”? Are you wanting more from life? Are you struggling with letting go, changing, getting rid of and/or avoiding difficult and painful thoughts and feelings? Utilizing a genuinely warm, humorous, and direct humanistic approach, I will gently challenge you and invite you to step out of your current comfort zone and step into authentic, mindful living. Throughout our sessions, we will: hold space for difficult thoughts and feelings, highlight underlying patterns of thinking and behaving that may no longer serve you, and imagine new ways of being and doing.

For
women
struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma and abuse, or grief I offer a space that focuses on being empowering and supportive, without shame or blame, recognizing the unique stressors that
women
face.
The
women
I work with are dealing with immense pressure in their personal and/or professional lives–even more so given the pervasive realities of sexism and racism. Many of them work in helping professions (e.g., medical field, mental health, education, ministry) and feel overwhelmed and drained, anxious about kids and work, and frustrated with their relationships. Many of my clients are also activists and advocates working for equity and justice. They are exhausted and burned out, often feeling isolated from friends and family. For some their work is bringing up personal trauma that is hard to get a handle on.

You're feeling anxious, depressed, and stressed out. Having a baby changed everything and you're overwhelmed by the ways motherhood isn’t what you were expecting, let alone hoped it would be like. You're worried about the scary thoughts you're afraid to say out loud or share with others. Or, you're living through loss and feel alone. You are not alone. With support, it can get better. There's no such thing as a perfect mother, and that's okay, so you can stop trying to be one. I support and nurture
women
struggling in any life transition and especially during pregnancy, postpartum and motherhood.

As a sensitive
woman
of color myself, I intimately understand your struggles, and as a trained therapist, I have the skills to create a compassionate place for you to heal.
Do you find yourself held back by shame, from feeling you are “too much” or “not enough”? You are craving healthy, fulfilling relationships but are struggling to break generational cycles and harmful patterns. You've learned to hide your struggles from others to survive. Often, you hide behind your capability, your ability not to need while readily meeting the needs of others at the expense of your own. Extreme independence hides the fear of relying on others, of trusting them. You can no longer ignore the wounds from childhood, from relationship issues, from generational trauma and PTSD, from having your sensitivity misunderstood.

Since 1996, I have specialized in helping
women
, children and families decrease anxiety, depression, and mood instability.
We all have times in our lives when we are not able to work through difficulties without help. I am devoted to helping people work through these challenges. Sometimes life changes bring up anxiety or lead to depression. But sometimes the cause of inner turmoil is not so clear. My therapy style has been effective at helping people overcome their obstacles, enhance their sense of self-worth, and improve the quality of their relationships.

As a therapist, my goal is to help you uncover your true potential and lead a life that feels authentic. MyPath is here to meet the unique needs of
women
who identify as
women
of faith and/or from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Every person has a unique life path that has led them to a specific moment where help might be needed. Sometimes our paths are filled with temporary roadblocks that we cannot remove alone. These roadblocks to our preferred path may be relational, emotional, and professional experiences. We can often attempt to push through the roadblocks, leading to burnout and emotional distress. We try to do things alone because it feels safe to keep our concerns private. Many believe they are meant to experience things, especially the challenging moments in life alone. Yet, in times of difficulty, it is helpful to seek support and healing.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
