I am an LGBTQ-affirming therapist, & my practice centers on supporting individuals and
couples
(in all forms of
relationship
structures) who are seeking to heal from unhealthy
relationship
dynamics, trauma, and anxiety.
On the surface, the world sees you as the one who ‘always has it together’ - but on the inside, you’re starting to feel like you’re falling apart. You feel like you're working overtime to push down those uncomfortable feelings (you know, the ones that have always been lurking in the background) - except no matter how hard you try, you’re finding yourself more anxious, ungrounded, and on edge than ever before. You want your body to feel more at ease. You want to feel more connected (to yourself, to others). You want to see (and trust) what others see. But, you’re just not sure how.

Relationships move us, give us life, and can even suck the life out of us. We were made for them. That is why I specialize in them - relationships with friends, family, colleagues, ourselves, our higher power. Properly realigning these problematic, strained, estranged relationships transforms your suffering into purposeful, worthwhile living. Ultimately your fullest life is my goal as your therapist. The greatest gift you can bring to your relationships is you. The best gift you can give the world is your relationships. What will you choose to do with these two important aspects of your one life?

In-person therapy is where it’s at! Have you tried in-person therapy? If yes, then you know the power it can have to help. If no, then I urge you to reach out and schedule - with me or another therapist with an office. Let isolation be over. Being private with things is good, as far as it goes but doesn’t do much to move us out of endless loops or confusing despair. I have no agenda for you but to be well. What can I do to help?

Have you or a loved one struggled with alcohol or drug dependency? Allow me to help you on your journey to recovery. At Life Steps Consulting, we know that life is full of different transitions, which can be broken down into a series of steps. When you are struggling with substance abuse, movement through the transitional steps halts, causing you to fall into unhealthy life cycles, which impact your career goals, relationships, physical and mental health. I can help you get back on track. I not only have studied the disease of alcohol and drug addiction, but I have been there and I know how you feel.

My therapy style is eclectic, allowing flexibility in finding an approach that will work most effectively with each individual and allowing us to
partner
together in treatment.
The Therapist for People Who Don't Like Therapy... My biggest goal in therapy is to get you out of my office and back into your life! With that said, I have found that most people, at some point in their life, could benefit from some professional listening and feedback. Our friends and family are great sources of support, but are often too closely involved to provide the kind of unbiased perspective that we need to help us out of a rut or to enact the true change that we really desire.

Do you find yourself unhappy in your current
relationship
with self or others, or have you forgotten what it means to “be yourself?” Maybe it’s that you don’t feel safe in your body or with emotional intimacy, or that you feel disconnected from who you are. You’re thinking that therapy will help, but what do you need? Is it skills to get through the day? To overcome past trauma or current family conflict? To feel more connected to yourself and others? Maybe that’s the hope you have for yourself or your teen and why you want to start counseling, but you need something more than accessing and understanding emotions, you want change.

I often find that therapy is effective in helping individuals and
couples
navigate past and current challenges.
Hello, If you are looking for in-person (video sessions available) sessions and would like to talk to someone today, please call or send me an email. Typically, I am able to return your call or email within a day. I hear from patients all the time, that the hardest part to finding and connecting with a clinician is getting someone to take your call or call you back. I try to make connecting one of easier parts of therapy. I provide counseling services to individuals,
couples
, and families, and adopt an approach that is engaged and collaborative. I look forward to hearing from you.

I believe that therapy is a powerful force in dealing with the emotions and difficulties that arise in daily life. It is my belief that in order for therapy to be effective, there must be trust between the client and therapist. Drawing heavily on humanistic theory, I utilize a collaborative, integrative approach to psychotherapy. I use strengths-based interventions to develop a strong therapeutic
relationship
and assist clients in the process of healing. I have training in the treatment of depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, substance use/abuse, self-esteem issues, and trauma-related symptoms in adolescents, adults, and veterans.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
