I specialize in the treatment of all
anxiety
-related disorders, including OCD, Social
Anxiety
, and Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake. After developing a treatment protocol at the Intensive Program level that was the first in the nation to integrate mindfulness-based Acceptance and Commitment Therapy ("ACT") with Exposure Therapy in the treatment of OCD, I am continuing that work in private practice. My focus is on helping people respond differently to the physical sensations of
anxiety
, get some space from "sticky" thoughts, and to return to the present moment.

Hello and Welcome! I’m Chyrissée and I am so glad you are here. I Believe...Life presents many challenges to our ability to stay balanced and centered in our day-to-day existence. During difficult times, additional support can offer the breathing room we need to help us make sense of our circumstances. The process of therapy and the journey of self-discovery in a supportive environment can help untangle confusing thoughts, feelings, and behavioral patterns that seem to be keeping you stuck.

Relationship issues, life transitions,
anxiety
, and depression are areas of interest.
I commend you for reaching out to the possibilities therapy may offer. Change begins in this moment. Life can feel unmanageable. We experience the joys and challenges of relationships. The relationship may be with ourselves: inner struggles, uncertain goals, questioned values, addictive tendencies and confusion as to why we "do what we do". The relationship may be with another. The relationship may call upon us to clarify our expectations, to establish personal boundaries, to develop flexibility, to reflect on co-dependence, to improve our communication style and to open ourselves to change.

I specialize in supporting those who long to experience ease and safety in their bodies and across their relationships - but feel stuck and overwhelmed by the undercurrents of
anxiety
& trauma in their life.
On the surface, the world sees you as the one who ‘always has it together’ - but on the inside, you’re starting to feel like you’re falling apart. You feel like you're working overtime to push down those uncomfortable feelings (you know, the ones that have always been lurking in the background) - except no matter how hard you try, you’re finding yourself more anxious, ungrounded, and on edge than ever before. You want your body to feel more at ease. You want to feel more connected (to yourself, to others). You want to see (and trust) what others see. But, you’re just not sure how.

My philosophy is that therapy is a team approach, and I view myself as a fellow traveler walking alongside my clients on their therapeutic journey. I believe that we all deserve a place where we can explore our thoughts and feelings in a non-judgmental setting. People's thoughts, ideals, values, and opinions are important to them, and I offer a therapeutic environment that allows individuals to explore these without bias or judgment. In addition, I have a deep passion for helping individuals explore life transitions at any stage, as well as those suffering from depression,
anxiety
, stress, trauma, and relationship issues.

On the outside, things look great. You’ve become good at hiding how you really feel and putting on your “I-have-it-altogether” face. Inside, however, you’re feeling lost, out of touch and disconnected from yourself. Maybe your
anxiety
is causing you to lose sleep, or you find yourself isolating from friends and family because of depression. Maybe you're covering all of this up with drugs, alcohol or other risky behaviors. You’re not entirely sure how you got here but you know something needs to change. You deserve to feel reconnected, balanced, calm and happier. Let me help!

As a psychologist, I help individuals manage a range of psychological and psychosocial issues, including depression,
anxiety
, trauma, stress, life changes, health-related issues, relationship issues, and substance use disorders.
When we encounter life stressors, whether anticipated or not, we experience a range of reactions. Many of which, we are not told how to deal with, yet are expected to manage. Mental health issues might complicate our ability to manage stressors, thereby worsening symptoms and making it even more difficult to handle both life and one's mental well-being. We sometimes feel as though those around us, despite their well intentions and support, do not quite understand what we are going through. We may feel unable to find our way, feel how we felt, or pursue what we hoped our life to be.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
