I look forward to building a relationship with you, helping you rediscover your strengths, and securing self- acceptance without self-judgment.
Through a respectful process of listening and questions, I work with you to help clarify your goals and values. I will help you find new perspectives and restore a healthy narrative that does not include feelings of blame or shame. We will work together to develop better skills at managing difficult emotions, such as sadness, disappointment, pain, and anger. We will learn to nurture feelings that are healthy and not those that can get us stuck. I hope to work with you to discover a sense of self-compassion and flexibility.

My research is focused on decolonizing mental health, which is the restoration and acceptance of cultural practices and values that were once abandoned, removed, or hidden as a result of colonialism.
In session, I will provide you with a safe and supportive environment focused on your healing. I incorporate different techniques and approaches, based on your needs as well as my assessment of what can be of true help to you. I believe it is important that I hold the space for you to incorporate your own healing practices if that is what you desire.

I specialize in the treatment of all anxiety-related disorders, including OCD, Social Anxiety, and Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake. After developing a treatment protocol at the Intensive Program level that was the first in the nation to integrate mindfulness-based Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (" ACT ") with Exposure Therapy in the treatment of OCD, I am continuing that work in private practice. My focus is on helping people respond differently to the physical sensations of anxiety, get some space from "sticky" thoughts, and to return to the present moment.

Trauma, anxiety, and addiction can make you feel stuck. The most important step towards healing is to address the unresolved emotion inside you. Healing requires feelings. Acceptance slowly dissolves pain. When we function from the fear and scarring of our trauma, the cycles continue until we learn how to transmute that energy into love. I apply a Holistic approach that integrates physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual forms of well-being, addressing the “whole” self. Through a holistic framework tailored to your unique needs, the goal is to support you develop a deeper understanding of the self on all these levels.

I am trained in EMDR, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT Tapping), Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP), Polyvagal Theory, Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and many other theories that inform the treatment I provide.
I am unable to accept new clients at this time. My ideal client is an individual seeking powerful change and who is also willing to look beyond traditional talk therapy to achieve it. As the field of psychology changes and grows, I believe it is important to adapt with it. As important as talk therapy can be to achieving stability, there are other valuable contributions that process trauma and transform the self without the discomfort of verbally processing painful memories. I combine both insight-oriented talk therapy and body based therapies such as the Safe and Sound Protocol, EMDR, and EFT Tapping for optimal, rapid, results.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
