Patients often tell me how they feel fed up, hopeless, lost, and exhausted by the time they seek out a therapist. Many folks in my practice are Asian American adult children of immigrants who experience painful conflicts within their
family
of origin that lead to separation, emotional distance, or even estrangement. I also work with individuals and couples who feel stuck in frustrating repetitive patterns in their thoughts and behaviors, negatively impacting their ability to find enjoyment in their lives and in their relationships. Therapy can give you a space to speak freely and listen to yourself in new and different ways.

I am also a licensed Marriage and
Family Therapist
in New York for bi-coastal clients.
Giving yourself a space dedicated to self-reflection is so helpful. I work with adolescents, often highly accomplished adults, and couples in my practice. I help clients meet their own goals by building a strong relationship, encouraging reflection, and exploring alternatives. I am warm, engaging, and well trained. In my work with clients, we look at the influence of a client's
family
-of-origin, their current stressors and challenges, and the relationship that unfold between the client and myself. I assist my clients to work through their challenges, so they have more choices to live a more authentic life.

I treat the
family
as a system in which each person is honored and respected.
What do you want? What are you doing to get it? Is it working, and if not, what can you do differently? Your personal goals for therapy, once defined, will be at the heart of our work together. I'll support you in applying your strengths, deepening your sense of connection to yourself and those you love, and finding healthy ways to relate to negative thoughts, feelings and behaviors. Suffering is part of the human condition, but together, we can learn to respond to it skillfully. Slowing down, healing and integrating life experiences will be our focus!

Do you constantly put yourself last? Are you presenting your best self at work, to your friends, and
family
? Is your health beginning to suffer? When any of these areas of life are toxic or even just out of balance we can feel "off" and not effective at anything. Over time we can develop low self-esteem, poor coping skills, and feel like a failure. I work with people who are afraid or overwhelmed by the thought of making a change to their job, relationship, or putting themselves first.

The Therapist for People Who Don't Like Therapy... My biggest goal in therapy is to get you out of my office and back into your life! With that said, I have found that most people, at some point in their life, could benefit from some professional listening and feedback. Our friends and
family
are great sources of support, but are often too closely involved to provide the kind of unbiased perspective that we need to help us out of a rut or to enact the true change that we really desire.

I come from a
family
that is ethnically diverse and the idea of people from different backgrounds getting along seems natural to me.
Facing emotionally painful situations takes a fair amount of bravery. I can walk with you through those challenges, offering support and at times being a source of strength. Avoiding grief, fears, any type of conflict and/or suppressing anger may lead to increased anxiety and depression. Learning how to face these things with the use of some good coping skills can be very empowering. We all have the ability to learn how to deal with our emotions and work through conflict. It just takes practice and maybe some guidance. This is where I can help.

Each day one awakes, one has another chance at life. From what I understand, we cannot control the
family
in which we have been born into, ethnicity, or physical attributes. Furthermore, changing the past is out anyone's control; however, I do believe that one has control over how he or she views the world, thoughts, and behaviors. Understanding self, relationships, and trying to cope with life can be challenging especially if you do not know where to begin. As therapist, I have the ability to meet you where your are; while always possessing an empathetic positive regard. With collaboration, I can help you meet your goals.

The idea that one learns by experiencing and is truly capable of making the necessary shifts in their lives is a mantra I live by. When one person mirrors another with gentle listening, others are able to clearly see what no longer works in their lives. Ingrained habits coming from difficult childhoods could be the very source of havoc, that with conscious awareness, can shift. Perhaps the way one communicates is keeping love from flowing in your life. Maybe parenting a child who reminds you of yourself means confronting yourself on a deeply personal level. Or perhaps it is simply a life transition that is simply too much.

If you are feeling like a square peg in a round hole, I am the therapist for you. If you or your
family
member is a zebra in a world of apples and oranges, you will feel right at home. My passion is working with these individuals, whether child or teen or adult, in an authentic, non-judgmental way. Together we will build a space where you can be your full self and practice ways of celebrating who you are. In our sessions we'll do this through drawing, painting, collage, journaling, tarot cards, virtual reality, sand tray, or even just talking about your favorite show or movie.

I am accepting new clients! I have had the privilege of working with a diverse set of clients with a wide range of backgrounds and needs. I offer a supportive space that counters the normativity within this culture that often is oppressive to people based on their identities. I recognize that what healing journey one person, relationship or
family
may need may be different than another and help to support you on that journey. In addition to being neurodivergent and transgender myself, I have also supported folks who are neurodivergent, queer and/or plural.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
