I see children and adults with a variety of presenting problems such as depression/anxiety, low self-esteem, grief/loss, relationship issues, eating disorders, LGBT concerns, teen /child issues, and PTSD/Trauma, to name a few. As a therapist, my goal is to be a non-biased support for you as we manage and process your hurdles. If your goal is personal growth, my role is to not change who you are, but to help you become holistically happier and a more fulfilled version of yourself.

Who am I? I've been married for 20+ years. My wife and I have a teenage son. I'm personable, friendly and like to laugh. I talk and ask questions. I won't sit silently and wait for you to talk. I won't say, "How does that make you feel?" I've been told that I'm a "normal guy." Who are you? Someone who wants to feel better? Or wants your teenager to talk to someone? Or wants to be happier and more secure in your committed relationship? Let's keep it simple and work together to find solutions.

These are some of the areas or specialities I like to work with: Women's Issues; Anxiety; Depression; Life Transitions; Alcohol, Drug and/or Eating Disorders; Financial Problems including Compulsive Spending/Shopping; Adults Sexually Abused as Children; Gay and Lesbian Population; Trauma; Couples Issues; Personal Growth; Adolescent Issues.
Good therapy is based more on the unique relationship between clinician and client more than a specific technique or model practiced. Research studies support this statement. I work with people to help them solve their emotional conflicts, improve their communication and resolve trauma. I am a compassionate, empathic, caring professional who provides a secure and safe environment for you to explore your feelings, thoughts, and behaviors. Whether you are in crisis, or want to focus on personal growth, I can help you uncover and discover what is most important to you and improve the quality of your life.

If you are a child/ teen , tell a parent you're ready to start therapy.
You are worried about your child. They have started to show signs of anxiety or depression which is starting to make you concerned. You try to lighten the mood when you can, but it is getting harder everyday. You never know what might make them upset and feel completely lost on what to do. You feel bad about the tension in the home and hate arguing with them, but sometimes its's the only thing you can do to get them to listen. You feel worried about what they may be thinking or doing like self-harm or suicidal thoughts and that terrifies you.

The therapeutic journey begins internally by listening to the heart when it tells us there is a need for change in our lives. Second is having the courage to admit when we need outside support to begin this change, and finally being bold enough to use our voices to seek out the assistance of a therapist. Therapy with the right therapist can be helpful to everyone. my preferred theoretical approach is client-centered. A client-centered therapeutic approach allows me to meet my clients where they are at and together develop the appropriate path forward. Other theoretical approaches include; CBT, DBT, experiential, & psychodynamic.

As a practicing psychotherapist for the last 15 years, I find it a privilege and honor to work with clients as they grow and learn about themselves and their lives. I believe it can be a wonderful opportunity to explore and move towards what is meaningful to you in your life. I also believe firmly that the therapist-client relationship is an important aspect in allowing for effective change and I strive to provide a warm, supportive and trusting environment throughout the process.

Life is challenging. Relationships can be difficult. Unexpected events happen. We fall off balance. We aren't sure of what to do and we feel stuck.... A caring therapeutic relationship provides the opportunity to reflect on your life in a safe and supportive environment. When you talk things out, you are able to clarify what you need and how to create the life you want and deserve. Together we will work towards you reclaiming a sense of passion, "presence" and purpose, and to take action towards balancing the things that matter most to you, creating an authentic and gratifying life.

Imagine feeling peace-even in the face of life's challenges. Anxiety and depression. Relationship problems with partners, family members, or others. Divorce, death, and other tragedies. Imagine knowing you have the emotional awareness and the skills you need to deal with whatever life brings you. The wherewithal to meet challenges, to achieve better outcomes, and - ultimately - to heal the wounds that can make peace seem elusive or fleeting. The choice to seek therapy is itself a big step toward healing. My role is to help guide you as you move through self-discovery, to self-awareness, to self-direction.

I believe that valuable therapeutic work can only be done with a strong and trusting relationship between client and therapist. I work to create a safe and comfortable environment in which you can truly show up as yourself, and know that you will be accepted and seen just as you are. My approach is warm and authentic. I want therapy to be so much more than me sitting in front of you and asking “...how does that make you feel?” If you’re interested in integrating art, play, movement, music, sand tray, or spiritual practices into our work - let’s do it! We all deserve to take up space in ways that feel good.

I have spent the past seven years supporting children and families in developing healthy and positive relationships with one another. I find families thrive once given the skills they are undoubtedly searching for. I attended CSU Sacramento for my Bachelors of Science in Speech Pathology and later my Master of Science degree in Marriage, Family and Child Counseling. I obtained my license in June of 2016 after completing the required 3,000 hours. I work individually with children of all ages and their families in order to ensure that the whole family obtains the skills necessary to grow and succeed.

I enjoy working with couples, adult individuals, teens, and families that are looking to deepen their awareness and have an expressed desire to create a deeper connection within their relationships. The couple relationship, the way in which you emotionally connect, express yourself and grow, can be one of the hardest but most rewarding things someone can commit to. Being vulnerable enough to allow yourself and someone else to love you is hard, but also brings fulfillment, compassion, and empathy to fruition. I enjoy working with folks who are curious about how they can find more fulfillment in their lives and their relationships.

I have a strong interest in working with individuals who have faced trauma to help them rediscover their voice and feel heard. As well as, couples who are struggling with connection, infidelity and more. I acknowledge that every individual is unique and has their own story. As someone who identifies as South Asian, I understand being at the crossroads of societal pressures while trying to balance multiple expectations with various cultural considerations and the stigma that may come around mental health.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
