So many things can appear to kill all those wonderful feelings and the joy you once had, but these feelings can be restored and even built on. I specialize in emotionally focused couple therapy. It has an amazing positive impact even in the face of affairs, loss of sexual interest, lives too busy to connect, loss of intimacy, traumatic histories, and so many other issues. I am trained in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, a researched based treatment to help couples connect more deeply in their relationships.
My goal as a Christian therapist is to provide a nurturing environment where clients feel safe to explore their lives. Relief from anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, and relationship issues are often areas of clinical focus. My extensive training as a hospital chaplain has provided me with exposure to many difficult situations where pain, grief, and trauma are common to people of all faiths as well as those who do not embrace a particular faith. It is my desire to wholeheartedly journey alongside each client, respecting the unique aspects of every person's faith tradition, situation and needs.

I use a variety of methods to meet your needs, including EMDR; cognitive-behavioral therapy; Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples; and psychodynamic talk.
Worried? Anxious? Blue? Feelings can be the result of your situation,or they can be triggered by deeper issues such as attachment, trauma, and unprocessed memories. EMDR "turbocharges" the processing of painful memories. Adults, teens, and children with a history of abuse, trauma, and loss can heal quickly. I also specialize in resolving relationship issues and helping families become stronger. Whether you need help to navigate life transitions or to realize your full potential for emotional growth, therapy is a highly interactive process. Together we develop a plan for treatment involving care and commitment. Feel better!

I primarily use Internal Family Systems (IFS), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) along with elements of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) in my work with clients.
I enjoy working with individuals and couples who are self-motivated and looking to rediscover themselves. As someone who has had to balance multiple cultures, I know what it can feel like to straddle more than one. I want to help you find your balance between the "two worlds" of what is important to you and your family without taking away from who you are. I will work with you to tap into your inner voice, channel your strengths and become the most fulfilling version of yourself.

I assist people in finding ways to triumph over the difficulties of living in healthy relationships. Having had a Canadian mother and lived in four distinct regions of the United States as well as Germany before coming to California I draw from my multicultural life experiences which also encompass 47 years of marriage, 4 adult children and Hi Tech work for 25 years. Growing up with a loving, but work-obsessed father has prepared me to assist with fathering issues. I am trained in EMDR/trauma therapy and Certified in Addiction Treatment, Prepare & Enrich Counseling and CBT TEAM Therapy.

Perhaps you’re a worst-case scenario thinker, constantly fearing something bad will happen, and often feel exhausted by this and its inherent lack of peace. Perhaps you experience social anxiety - the idea of meeting new people or interacting with others tends to trigger feelings of self-doubt, fears of being judged or not measuring up. Or perhaps within your close relationships, anxiety has translated into an overly critical or controlling demeanor. Though you don’t intend this, feeling powerless in other areas of life or always having had to be the responsible one may have caused you to have a tight grip on your life.

If you’re struggling with anxiety or depression, or have been through something traumatic or distressing, you’re not alone. Even the strongest amongst us have times when external and internal pressures can overwhelm our physiological and psychological ability to cope. Psychotherapy is a proven and effective intervention to help reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, heal from past trauma, and provide tools for maintaining emotional health for the long-term. For others, our relationships can become chaotic or broken and we just need someone to guide us as we navigate all the different personalities that make up a family.

I had forgotten what was most important to me about being a therapist and connecting with those who come to my office seeking guidance. I struggled with trying to be like all the “greats”, criticizing myself for not saying the “right” phrase or not having all the effective interventions at my disposal to satisfy a client. But after a two-year pause from practicing I realize what matters, that which drew me to this field long ago: being myself and being safe and caring. Connecting out of this core place, I find that relating happens, judgment fades, there's laughter, hidden truths and feelings are shared and change can occur.

Emotionally Focused Therapists
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is an approach to therapy that helps clients identify their emotions, learn to explore and experience them, to understand them and then to manage them. Emotionally Focused Therapy embraces the idea that emotions can be changed, first by arriving at or 'living' the maladaptive emotion (e.g. loss, fear or shame) in session, and then learning to transform it. Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples seeks to break the negative emotion cycles within relationships, emphasizing the importance of the attachment bond between couples, and how nurturing of the attachment bonds and an empathetic understanding of each others emotions can break the cycles.
