I desire a safe place for others to find hope, healing and transformation. I am a nurturer at heart and love to help those who are deeply wounded. I am known for my authenticity, sensitivity and insight. I believe that healing occurs when a safe relationship is formed with someone who can lead you to the vulnerable places of the heart. It is there that healing happens and hope and purpose begins to blossom. My heart is to see brokenness, and pain transformed into a new life of healing, joy and healthy relationships.

Are you feeling overwhelmed by the pain and confusion of a relationship that was supposed to bring joy and safety? Perhaps you are carrying the trauma of a crime, the gaslighting of narcissistic abuse, or the betrayal of an affair. These experiences can leave you struggling with anxiety, depression, and a deep sense of loss. While these feelings are common responses to trauma, you do not have to remain stuck in them. Healing is possible, and together we can create a path forward. I would love to be able to support your journey towards relief and wellness around the issues that have felt unsolvable.

I felt called to become a marriage/family therapist when the decision to change careers didn't make sense. I ran a successful computer company, fresh off of a decade as an executive for a software company. I had a love for the study of people, and relationships, having received my bachelor's from the University of Utah in MassComm with a minor in Psychology. I was in a wonderful relationship, having a safe environment to share hopes, dreams, fears struggles... I realized that not everyone had this support in place to process highs, lows, and to learn to grow.

Traumatic stress, depression, anxiety, grief & loss, or compulsive sexuality, have hurt my life or others. I feel scared, alone, and powerless. I am confused and don't know where to begin. I feel stuck, frozen, and angry, and the guilt too much to bare... Within a safe non-judgmental space we discover hope, healing, and recovery, finding a sense of direction and personal meaning through the therapeutic relationship. Change begins first with awareness and then with a heavy dose of courage and commitment.

For over 20 years I have worked with people with eating disorders, body dissatisfaction, depression, anxiety and personality disorders, relationship issues, sexual abuse, trauma, and grief to improve their quality of life and cope with the stress and anxiety of difficult life transitions.
I enjoy working with individuals who want to create positive change. Sometimes we need additional support, or we have tried to change things on our own without success. Psychotherapy can help to gain insight into past and present factors that get in the way of creating long lasting change, and help you develop new and healthier thoughts and behaviors. It can also be an important part of your support system if you have experienced trauma or high stress and anxiety. Whatever your goals, we work together to define the path to creating the life you want to live.

Are you feeling anxious, depressed, or stuck? Are symptoms of ADHD negatively impacting your life? Do you find it hard to make and maintain healthy relationships? Are you struggling to navigate life changes or process current or past trauma? If so, counseling is a fantastic option to help heal and move through these difficult experiences. I believe a safe, supportive therapeutic relationship is the most important catalyst for change in therapy. I strive to connect with people where they are in their lives, accept them as they are, and to support and gently challenge them to take steps towards where they would like to be.

Therapy offers the opportunity to share with someone, maybe for the first time who you really are. A safe therapist will help minimize feelings of shame and guide you toward deep appreciation for the younger parts of yourself that protected you from overwhelming pain. Unprocessed pain makes it difficult to trust that the people you care about most are attached to you. In couples therapy both sides likely feel unseen, alone, and fearful that they are not worth being loved the way they desire.

::Accepting new clients:: Do you have stress or irritability worries that feel too big or too heavy? Was there a difficult time in your life that you became a superhero version of yourself to survive? You could be struggling with these worries because, although you are safe and sound now, your body and mind are still stressing and surviving. You have probably considered counseling before and have either tried it with some relief or decided against it because, well, you're so strong! You've been able to manage this long and, besides, life is full of obstacles. Yet, life is harder than you can bear alone.

Life is exciting and beautiful. And, at the same time it can be painful and chaotic. There are parts of us who want to run away, who want to feel better, or just want to give up. Many of us have the pieces of our puzzle, but we may be looking for a missing piece, or cannot see the full picture. That is where my passion to come alongside you belongs. I enjoy looking at the pieces together with you, putting them into perspective, curiously looking for a missing piece, and finding the spot that “fits best” and feels right. My strategy is to collaborate with you because “you know you best.”

Being compassionate with our self is important when we undertake personal change. Our internal critic and negative thoughts can leave us feeling defeated. When we're disconnected from our authentic self or from others, we suffer. Disconnection can result from many circumstances, for example living by other's expectations at the expense of pursuing our own goals. Or, the busy pace of life can leave people feeling disconnected and alienated. When we re-connect with our self and other people, we're more able to manage life's stressors using healthy means and live a more peaceful and contented life.

Sexual Abuse Therapists

How do therapists treat sexual abuse?

A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?

Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?

Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?

As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
