I am Dr. Michelle Linquist and I am excited about the possibility of working with you! I obtained my Doctoral Degree in clinical psychology at Pepperdine University, and I have been licensed since 2017. I completed my pre-doctoral internship at Jerry L. Pettis VA in Loma Linda, CA where I worked with veterans with PTSD, anxiety, depression, and substance abuse problems. I accrued my post-doctoral training through California Parenting Institute in Santa Rosa and St. John's Program for Real Change in Sacramento. This training afforded me the opportunity to work with families and homeless women with a variety of mental health problems.

I love what I do! I am passionate about empowering WOMEN & KIDDOS a to live the life they were meant to live.
One of the simplest and yet most profound questions I've ever been asked is, "What's your WHY?" In a bat of an eye, I knew my WHY. I truly believe EVERYONE holds the ability to make change. I believe people are over comers and hold the power to break cycles, fight a battle so their children won't have to, discover their purpose, find freedom in forgiveness. I have seen how hard and cruel this world can be, but I have also been privileged to bear witness to radical change. No one is beyond change. No one is beyond healing. Everyone can discover their MEANING, PURPOSE, and JOY.

I have 14 years of experience in the treatment of eating disorders and co-occurring mood disorders, body dysmorphia, trauma, self-harm, women ’s issues and intimate partner betrayal.
If you’ve ever felt that no matter how hard you try it is NEVER enough, if your obsession with weight and food have begun to control YOU, if you are weary under the weight of your own inner critic or haunted by the memories in your head and feel there is no one you can trust or with whom you could risk sharing the reality in your head, I am here to help. I know what it feels like to be in your shoes. I know that you likely can’t even conceive of another, freer way of living. But I am certain of this- true recovery is attainable, not just for some of us, for all of us. It IS hard work. And it’s infinitely worth it.

Do you feel stuck? Do you want something more for your life, but you don't know where to start? Feeling stuck is a difficult place to be. We've all been there. We want to move forward, but we freeze instead. When you reach this point, guidance, tools, encouragement and support are often needed. Maybe you would like someone to hear you and truly understand. Someone who wants the best for you - who will help you figure things out - and then help you get to where you would like to be. This is how I would work with you as your coach.

Being compassionate with our self is important when we undertake personal change. Our internal critic and negative thoughts can leave us feeling defeated. When we're disconnected from our authentic self or from others, we suffer. Disconnection can result from many circumstances, for example living by other's expectations at the expense of pursuing our own goals. Or, the busy pace of life can leave people feeling disconnected and alienated. When we re-connect with our self and other people, we're more able to manage life's stressors using healthy means and live a more peaceful and contented life.

I want to work with individuals and couples who are motivated to go on a journey of self exploration to arrive at the destination of greater understanding of themselves and their behavior. I believe that the most important factor in this journey is the relationship between myself and my client(s). Creating a safe, nonjudgemental atmosphere is my priority as it is crucial to undertake such a journey. I use a broad variety of skills and techniques so that I can tailor the therapeutic process to each individual or couple.

Most individuals have times when they don't feel effective, or they fear taking the next step or making a wrong decision. Issues such as anxiety, addictions, relationship problems, past sexual abuse or trauma, personality factors or other mental health disorders may get in the way of creating the life you want to live. Psychotherapy can help you define specifically where you want to go from here, and identify patterns and other factors that may be keeping you from achieving and creating your best self.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
