Pema Chödrön wrote, "Nothing ever goes away until it has taught us what we need to know." My therapeutic work is Depth Psychology-based, grounded in the knowledge that all emotional pain has a root source, and that to alleviate the symptoms, we must find that source and heal those old wounds. I treat trauma and PTSD, mood disorders, women's issues , codependence, grief & loss, stage of life issues, creativity, and LGBQIA and Transgender/Gender Non-Conforming issues. I work with transgender/NGC adults, and families.

I specialize in helping women find their inner beauty, so that they can be and give the best version of themselves. I accomplish this by helping unpack behavioral, relational patterns and/or distorted perceptions that hinder from being who you are designed/created to be. While you can't change your past, you can, however, do the work to better understand how you function in your relationships. So that you can begin to make better choices in your present and future. I truly believe that if you can change your mindset, you can change your life. Lastly, I love to talk about relationships, singleness and pre-marriage preparation!

I believe all individuals are deserving of love, kindness, and joy. This often seems impossible when life presents challenges, loss, or disappointment. We cannot choose what happens around us, but we can choose our reactions to life’s circumstances. The meaning we make will direct our path. I am committed to helping you identify constructive options that support your long term goals. Together we can practice emotion regulation, distress tolerance and positive interpersonal skills. All of these will contribute to personal growth, improved relationships, a healthy sense of self, and a meaningful life.

Do you self-sabotage? You work very hard to get ahead, strive for success and accomplish goals that you desire. Meanwhile, another part of you criticizes, punishes and demeans everything you’re working hard for. Is it a constant battle between what you want to accomplish, how you want your life to be and that harsh critical voice inside your head? That voice is a big part of your depression, anxiety and addiction. You are not alone and you are not hopeless and doomed to repeat this cycle over and over. I understand that voice and I want to help you find freedom from it.

You expected pregnancy and motherhood to be a time filled with joy. But you find yourself exhausted and filled with doubt. You are often caring for others before you care for yourself. You have lost yourself along the way and feel completely disconnected from the person you used to be. A part of you longs to rediscover yourself and to feel more confident in this new stage in life. If you made it this far, maybe there is a part of that recognizes that there is a possibility that things can be different, but, you just don’t know where to start.

Women's Issues Therapists

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?

Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?

Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
