What worked for a friend hasn’t worked for you with your child. You’re absolutely devoted to your little one and want to help them...but you don’t know what to do or where to turn. You wish you could discover the secret to unravel this mystery. Will things always be this hard for you and the child you love so much?

Working with individuals who have experienced trauma, domestic violence, family abuse, and other types of life crises is my passion. I have many years of experience working with survivors of abuse. I find it rewarding to be on the healing journey with not just survivors of trauma, but all of those who are in need of support. I have been working with transgendered individuals for over three years now and find this work enriching. In addition, I find working with
couples
and teens fulfilling.

I specialize in using the Gottman method to teach skills to
couples
in crisis to make their
relationship
long lasting and explore in a safe environment their emotions.
One of the most challenging aspects of life is developing and maintaining good and healthy relationships. If you are having difficulties in relationships with a
spouse
, child, parent, or sibling you are not alone. You may think communication is the source of your problems, but the cause is often much deeper than that.

I enjoy working with adolescents, adults, &
couples
and any clients interested in faith-integrated therapy.
I believe that in the same way that physical trainers function to meet fitness goals, therapists function to support individuals toward mental & emotional wellness. Not all therapy experiences are positive and it's important to me that each of my clients feel safe enough to do the hard work of healing. The personal work I've done in therapy has provided me with an acute understanding of how it feels to be on the receiving end as well as the challenges & importance of finding the right therapist. My goal is to help you feel seen & heard right where you are at and supportively come alongside you in where you are trying to go.

My primary treatment modality with most patients is to work with their thinking and their actions, a cognitive-behavioral approach. Anxiety disorders, chronic worry and low self-esteem issues are my specialties. I also work with
couples
in an educational format to learn effective means of communicating and problem solving. I can also help those individuals dealing with work related problems that are causing them to have distressing symptoms. Looking at life meaning/purpose and goals and values under girds each patient’s treatment as well.

Whatever it may be that brought you here today, it would be my honor to provide you with the space where you can feel safe and comfortable in sharing your story with me.

As a certified EFT therapist, I specialize in working with
couples
who have trouble communicating, resolving conflict, or restoring breaches of trust. Sometimes we feel as though our
partner
is speaking a different language and attempts at connection only leave us feeling more alone. When we lose faith in our
partner
's ability to meet our needs, we tend to respond by fighting to restore a felt sense of connection or by backing off and avoiding conflict to preserve whatever connection may be left. We might feel that our
partner
doesn't care for us or that we've somehow failed our partners and that we may never get it right.

Finding our strengths is an intangible but important part of living. We may find strength from relationships, growing opportunities, self awareness and devoting our energy to values we consider more important than ourselves. In entering therapy, the client's
relationship
with the therapist can be a step in finding that strength. I specialize in adults, either in individual therapy or with the
partner
. I also have experience in family therapy involving teenagers and young adults. I have experience in anger management, grief, work related stress and problems of isolation.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
