Deciding to come to therapy can be a very difficult decision. In the last 12 years of practicing, I've found that meeting my clients where they are is the most important part of my job. If you're struggling with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, have trauma in your past or just want someone to listen while you talk through what's going on in your life, please give me a call. I have an extensive background in treating eating disorders and am also a certified EMDR therapist.

I use a collaborative as well as
attachment-based
approach in working with my clients.
Have you ever found yourself thinking "I am not good enough" or "others cannot be trusted"? Most of us may have these core beliefs that interfere with our ability to reach our full potential. In addition, many of the issues and core beliefs that we deal with later in life are a result of emotional wounds that are suffered early on. We will work together to figure out the root of these core beliefs in order to help you heal and become the best version of yourself. By providing a safe and secure space in which clients can explore and overcome their challenges, we can work collaboratively towards your goals of healing.

My approach to therapy is nonjudgemental,
attachment-based
, collaborative and interpersonal.
Do you self-sabotage? You work very hard to get ahead, strive for success and accomplish goals that you desire. Meanwhile, another part of you criticizes, punishes and demeans everything you’re working hard for. Is it a constant battle between what you want to accomplish, how you want your life to be and that harsh critical voice inside your head? That voice is a big part of your depression, anxiety and addiction. You are not alone and you are not hopeless and doomed to repeat this cycle over and over. I understand that voice and I want to help you find freedom from it.

Children are uniquely wonderful...and also complex and confusing! It’s normal to feel overwhelmed at times as a parent. You’re constantly trying to figure out why your child is behaving the way they are...and what on earth to do about it. What worked last week is definitely not working today. What worked for a friend hasn’t worked for you with your child. You’re absolutely devoted to your little one and want to help them...but you don’t know what to do or where to turn. You wish you could discover the secret to unravel this mystery. Will things always be this hard for you and the child you love so much?

If you have trouble managing your child's behavior, poor family communication, or if your child has experienced a trauma, I would like to help you! Because of the joy I receive from watching a child and parent successfully complete therapy, I now focus my effort towards children and their family. I truly enjoy observing children learn, flourish, improve their ability to relate, and make a stronger bond between parent and child.

Therapy should have a natural ability to connect therapists and clients in a safe and supportive environment for people to explore their thoughts and feelings. I believe my warm and kind demeanor puts clients at ease, allowing you to open up and share your experiences without fear of judgment. Therapy further helps clients identify and challenge negative thought patterns and develop new, more positive ways of thinking and behaving in a reparative environment.

One of the most challenging aspects of life is developing and maintaining good and healthy relationships. If you are having difficulties in relationships with a spouse, child, parent, or sibling you are not alone. You may think communication is the source of your problems, but the cause is often much deeper than that.

Life often comes with experiences that are difficult to handle. In my experience in working with individuals, couples, children, and families, I have come to understand that stressful and negative life experiences can present at different times. This may make it more difficult for us to cope, connect, and function in our daily life and with others. I understand that reaching out for support can be difficult, but necessary at times. In my work, I do my best to provide a safe, supportive, and understanding environment that enables individuals the space to explore the situations and experiences that have occurred.

This past year has brought many of us face to face with ourselves. You may find yourself haunted by the past. Or perhaps with fewer distractions, you have "gotten in your head" and are find that you don't know how to be still with yourself. For many, relationships and finances have been strained beyond their limits. This year has brought extremes. Some people find themselves without a job or purpose and too much time on their hands. Others are being pushed to their limit in multiple roles such as working from home while trying to managing their children's online education. Most everyone is looking for some relief right now.

Attachment-based Therapists
Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.
What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.
How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.
Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
