I have helped my clients to address relationship challenges, career stresses and transitions, depression, anxiety, hopelessness, and the effects of past trauma. Among others, I work with individuals facing tough transitions, grappling with questions about identity and purpose, suffering grief or loss, or struggling in their relationships. In our first session we will talk about what brings you to therapy, and together develop a plan that directly addresses your needs. My style is non judgmental and interactive, providing a safe place where you can heal, gain insight, and together we'll make way for growth.

As a therapist, my role is to support clients in achieving their goals by providing a safe and empathetic space for self-exploration and growth. Goal setting is a collaborative process, and I encourage clients to identify and articulate their objectives, whether they're related to mental health, relationships, or personal development. We work together to break down these goals into manageable, realistic steps. It's important to acknowledge that setbacks are a normal part of any journey. I help clients develop resilience and self-compassion, emphasizing that progress is not always linear.

Your life is impacted by many things. Your individual family history and your unique life experiences influence how you see yourself and interact with others. You may find yourself overwhelmed, confused, and unable to change behavior. Your previous ways of coping no longer work, yet you don't have the tools to make any changes. The good news is that things can change for the better. You have the power within you, with professional help and guidance, to make life- altering changes. I provide a lot of feedback and things to think about. I ask questions that elicit changes in perceptions and result in insight that moves you forward.

When is sadness, not just sadness? When is worry more than just your average worry? It starts small, and we tell ourselves we will put things away later. That later turns out to be a week, then two, and then a month. You find yourself not wanting to get out of bed or not wanting to leave the house. You don't have to do this alone. Let me help you understand your feelings and find your motivation. Or have you experienced the stress of fitting in after immigrating to the United States? Or have you felt panic attacks after translating documents from English to Spanish?

Working with individuals who have experienced trauma, domestic violence, family abuse, and other types of life crises is my passion. I have many years of experience working with survivors of abuse. I find it rewarding to be on the healing journey with not just survivors of trauma, but all of those who are in need of support. I have been working with transgendered individuals for over three years now and find this work enriching. In addition, I find working with couples and teens fulfilling.

Sometimes, I ask questions to help you reach your answers, and, other times, I challenge you and frequently give assignments to help you further work through what’s bothering you. Things I have heard repeatedly from clients is that they appreciate my down-to-earth, empathetic yet sometimes humorous approach. Clients consistently say that they appreciate the way I listen and genuinely care. I’m kinda like a wise teacher, nurturer, wisecracking, and sarcastic all rolled into one. I have also been described as a motivational coach and encouraging cheerleader. Most importantly, I like to think of myself as a fellow traveler.

Anxiety is a prison, it’s hard to escape the second guessing or the panic attacks. What would it feel like to have the confidence to believe that you have what it takes to tackle the ups and downs of life; to believe that your decisions are good and come from a healthy place? Wouldn’t it be freeing to stop that hamster on the treadmill in your head? What about your regrets? What do you wish you had done differently? Most of us would like to feel "good enough" but we often don't. I can help you on your journey to become whole, stronger and be a better version of yourself.

Thank you for visiting and for considering therapy with me. I hope this is the beginning of a wonderful therapeutic relationship, where you can expect growth and new insights. A little about myself: I graduated from Smith College School of Social Work (Massachusetts) in 2006. My career has been rich and varied, for which I am truly grateful, having 18+ years of experience, from outpatient therapy for individuals, couples and families, residential and PACT teams, and medical social work in an ER and transplant center. I currently work with adults in individual therapy in my private practice.

Children are uniquely wonderful...and also complex and confusing! It’s normal to feel overwhelmed at times as a parent. You’re constantly trying to figure out why your child is behaving the way they are...and what on earth to do about it. What worked last week is definitely not working today. What worked for a friend hasn’t worked for you with your child. You’re absolutely devoted to your little one and want to help them...but you don’t know what to do or where to turn. You wish you could discover the secret to unravel this mystery. Will things always be this hard for you and the child you love so much?

I welcome working with people who are struggling with the many challenges that life brings. I find those who are dealing with either acute or chronic stress are particularly responsive to my services. Often it is times of crisis in our lives that motivate us toward meaningful change.

Do you feel a void, unhappy, or don’t understand why you are the way you are? Or maybe you don’t understand why others are the way they are and feel disconnected or disappointed in self and others. Often there can be a block or obstacle to relating to yourself and others which needs to be removed before being able to feel connected, calm, and confident. This block or obstacle often develops from experiences in life which may be obvious or not so obvious. We have the ability to feel calm, content, even happy and we don’t have to work hard for it… we just need to uncover it. I can help with this!

How can I find a therapist in Canyon Crest, Riverside?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
