If you’re reading this, you're probably a responsible, successful professional and the one everyone relies on, but inside, you’re overwhelmed. You usually say yes when you want to say no, and carry guilt, shame, and pressure to meet everyone’s expectations. You may also be a South Asian second or third generation, navigating relationship stress, generational trauma, and the struggle to set boundaries without losing connection. As you're reading this, I hope you feel seen. You’re not broken, you’re just carrying too much. Therapy can help you put some of that down and reconnect with what you need.

I am a Mexican-American, Spanish-speaking therapist. I specialize in working with teens and adults who are experiencing symptoms of anxiety and depression. I consider culture as an integral part of who we are and take pride in being mindful, compassionate, and respectful in considering one’s cultural background. Knowing how difficult it is to ask for help when struggling with life’s issues, I strive to provide a safe, non-judgmental environment where I can work alongside my clients, helping to minimize feelings of guilt, shame, and hopelessness so that individuals can process their stories and past trauma.

Ladies, does this sound familiar? You focus on what everyone else in your life needs while your needs aren’t even in the equation. You hold back your true thoughts and feelings to keep the peace. You push through and handle it all because you know you can (even if you don’t want to). You don’t stop to think how the connections in your life are benefitting you or if they even are. If this does sound familiar, you’re not alone, and things absolutely can change.

You are not alone, as a society we are facing uncertain and troubling times, and it's okay to ask for help. As a therapist I too have faced my share of life's challenges. You’ve been doing everything you can to hold it together. You show up at work, take care of others, try to stay grounded, but underneath it all, you’re exhausted from carrying so much emotional weight. That's where I come in. I work with adults healing from childhood trauma, navigating relationships, and trying to thrive in careers and relationships in a world that often rewards burnout over balance. Maybe you’re questioning your worth, repeating old relationship patterns, or struggling to feel seen. On the outside you look put together, but inside you feel overwhelmed and disconnected.

You're exhausted from being the Strong Black Woman—the high achiever everyone leans on, the friend who holds it all together. You've built a life that looks successful, but inside you feel unseen, overworked, and lonely. You were conditioned to prioritize everyone else. To perform. To be strong no matter what. The guilt of saying no is crushing. The weight of everyone's expectations is suffocating. You're tired of over-functioning, people-pleasing, and carrying burdens that aren't yours. You want peace. Boundaries without shame. To prioritize yourself without fear. To be seen for who you are, not just what you do.

When life presents challenges, even the most robust and resourceful individuals can become overwhelmed, feel insecure, alone and lost. Psychological consulting can create an environment where acceptance is experienced, healthy coping strategies are developed and resilience is cultivated. Your decision to explore your life through supportive psychotherapy can promote the healing of past emotional injuries and assist with the difficulties of current stressors.

In order to be deeply connected you must stand on your own two feet. You can’t outsource your self worth. Passion fades when you play it safe. Your ability to tell the truth and hold your ground determines the depth of your connection. Anxiety spreads, but you don’t have to catch it. Be open to everything and cling to nothing.

Women's Issues Therapists

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?

Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?

Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
