As a board certified art therapist, I use art media, the creative process, and resulting artwork to help individuals, couples and families process trauma, reduce anxiety and depression, manage addictions, develop self-awareness, address unresolved emotional conflicts, improve social skills, and build self-esteem.
Whether you've been in therapy before, or this will be your first time; it is important to feel safe and comfortable enough to talk about things that are causing you distress. Are you experiencing life changes, decisions, challenges, trauma, illness, or disabilities? Are you looking for a way to cope with anxiety or depression?  Do you have nightmares or trouble sleeping?  Maybe you have experienced the loss of someone close to you, or a job, or a beloved pet.  Or you are just plain stressed out.  All the time. Talk can help, but so can non-verbal expressive therapies, in a non-threatening, non-judgmental environment.

I have also used other methods of therapy such as Art Therapy as well as Interpersonal Process when either the clients dislike the experience of CBT or if they prefer a more indirect and connection-based therapy.
My ideal client is someone who's interested in addressing and working on whatever their struggling with directly and openly. Perhaps you are no longer enjoying things you used to, or experiencing nervousness or tension in your work. Maybe you're worried all the time or you only have negative thoughts. My ideal client could be anyone, younger or older and ideally in California as I can only work in this state.

Every session is unique to the individual, but may include working through emotions with body awareness, observing beliefs and thoughts and learning to master reframing of the stories we tell ourselves, learning to listen to the messages of the body and your higher self, allowing nature to reveal insights, art therapy, dreamwork, or practicing Presence - a form of mindfulness.
Feeling stressed out, anxious? Life doesn’t have to be so overwhelming, upsetting, and discouraging. You may feel like it’s not safe to be your “True Self”, or that you’re not even sure what that means. But you know it’s calling to you. Under the worry, loneliness, anxiety, or sadness, there’s an inkling of what it would be like to be happy, peaceful, and fulfilled – but it’s elusive. Perhaps you’ve even tried all the “right” things to heal and discover yourself, like self-help books, mindfulness, meditation, yoga – years of personal growth work – and they haven’t been enough.

Art Therapy
How does art therapy work?
The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?
Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?
The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?
Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
