“There isn’t anyone you couldn’t love once you’ve heard their story. ” ― Mary Lou Kownacki. We usually have good reasons for feeling the way we do. With curiosity and compassion, and without judgement, I want to see the world from your eyes. Once I meet you where you are, I can help you take steps toward living a rich, full, and meaningful life. Life brings us all kinds of challenges that can leave us stuck in patterns of relating to others, creating disconnection and feeling stuck in feelings we want to escape from. What would it be like to break free of those patterns, to deal with painful thoughts and feelings effectively?

I work with adolescent & adult
women
who struggle with complex PTSD, life transitions, depression, anxiety, & relationship distress.
As a psychologist, I empower individuals to grow and reach fulfillment in their lives. Whether you are a high school student coping with changes, a young adult trying to find your way through adulthood, an individual who has experienced trauma that won't seem to go away, or a parent hoping to help your family, I firmly believe that everyone needs help sometimes. I like to think about life as a long road trip. Sometimes the terrain is going to be rocky and there will be obstacles in the way and other times it will be smooth and open. As your therapist, I will help you navigate the terrain of life effectively.

I am passionate about
women
's mental health and I specialize in helping
women
and teen girls work through trauma, identity issues, relationship challenges, and difficult life transitions (including young adulthood, infertility, pregnancy and postpartum, and early parenthood).
I believe in the healing power of connection and conversation. I also believe in the wisdom of the body. And I commit bringing my whole self into the therapy room in order to help you get to better know all the parts that make you "you." I use a trauma-informed approach rooted in psychodynamic and relational therapies. This means I’m curious about how your past has shaped your present, and I see therapy as an opportunity to try out new ways of thinking, behaving, and relating. Since each person is unique, I tailor my approach by integrating tools like somatic techniques, mindfulness exercises, and skills from CBT and DBT.

Are you a multicultural couple wanting to set boundaries, discuss power and privilege, and improve communication; a Black
woman
professional overwhelmed by stress and trauma; a young adult desiring to develop your racial identity? I look forward to joining you on the path towards greater understanding and acceptance. My mental health and wellness approach centers on compassionate collaboration and direct truth-telling, and much of our work will challenge traditional ways of existing and relating. Carol Francis helps men and
women
overcome differences and conflicts that suffocate, crush or destroy love.
Relationships between husbands, wives, lovers, boy/girl friends, children or parents can be tricky. Happy, satisfying and fulfilling relationships require attention, energy, fun, humor, communication, time and investment of yourself. Too often relationships are hampered by misunderstandings, hurtful actions, stress, differences of opinions, unmet needs, and different expectations. Personality changes over time, affairs of the heart, infidelity, unmet sexual intimacy, abuse, cruel words, neglect, self-centeredness, different communication styles, different goals, values and dissimilar interests or fun activities also create unhappiness in relationships. Dr. Carol Francis has worked with relationships satisfaction for 32 years. 310-543-1824 or RelationshipSatisfactionNow.com and drcarolfrancis.com pathstosuccesses.com

D graduate work focused on
Women
's Cravings: A Search for Fulfillment.
I enjoyed very much my post licensure work at a family institute. Whether working with a child, an adolescent, an adult, a dyad or the whole family, I will initially focus on the person suffering the most. Based on the presenting symptom, I may do brief crisis intervention to stabilize a situation until an individual's underlying issue has been crystallized. The life issue causing depression, anxiety, and fears will then be addressed in more depth. My approach is to assist people in their own healing, maximizing on their own strengths and resources.

My primary focus is the individual, family or couple who are unhappy with the relationships in their lives; helping them uncover the dynamics of those relationships, find your solution, closure, journey and ultimately, their path to accepting themselves. These dynamics can manifest themselves in addiction, alcohol, abuse, anxiety, depression, low self esteem, developmental and challenges of transitioning to different life stages. I help empower people, from
women
with long term sobriety facing life stage issues to parents struggling with teens. I honor the trust and faith placed on me and am committed to assisting you to THRIVE.

In life there is pain. Painful experiences growing up that stay inside and manifest in our everyday behavior and internal struggles. In my work, whether the person is a child, teen, young adult, parent, or
woman
, I aim to provide a space of compassion and safety from which to understand the world around us (relationships, school, work, friendships) and the internal world within us (thoughts, emotions, pain, discomfort). The goal in my work is to help you/your child get in touch with, tune in, and understand themselves; in particular thoughts and feelings.

Having worked with diverse identity groups, cultural narratives and trauma experiences, and as a Korean-American

I believe I can offer unique insight and language into those complex experiences.
Many people hit a point in their lives where they doubt in their capacity to heal or even deal with life’s circumstances. Maybe you're someone who has anxiously tried to make it work on your own until you’ve found yourself stuck in patterns and convoluted stories that no longer work for you. The process of sifting through what's true or false can feel isolating and lonely when navigating that on your own. But I want to offer the idea that maybe you were never meant to be alone in that process.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
