, grief and loss, life transitions, alcohol/drug problems, codependency, trauma, sexual abuse, LGBT+, Queer/non-binary and self-injury.
Therapy can feel daunting, especially at first, so it's important you feel a comfortable connection with a therapist. Maybe you're here because you've been feeling the need to resolve problems or you need some support. Therapy is a collaborative process and we can talk about issues you feel ready to discuss. My intention is to create an environment where you feel safe to explore what's troubling you. We can work together and move at your pace - therapy is part talking, part listening and part teaching. The end goal is to help you find relief and solutions.

Depression,
anxiety
and past traumas can interfere; preventing us from the self respect we need in order to have intimacy and good relationships with others.
Would you like to transform your life by gaining new insights into what makes you tick and what barriers prevent you from moving forward? My practice focuses on healthy relationships with ourselves, our partners, children, family co-workers, and others around us.
Relationships are so essential to our well being that they often influence our moods. They can be the basis of our feelings of safety, pleasure and satisfaction or the source of anger, bitterness and sadness. Often we are ambivalent and both positive and negative feelings exist at the same time.

Having
Panic
or
Anxiety
, I use Somatic & EMDR therapies to help you relax and bring your nervous system back in balance.
Sometimes, when faced with many of life's challenges, we can find it difficult to reach out. Often fear or shame get in the way of asking for help. But there is hope. Working with a therapist, you can begin to feel validated and discover that you are not alone. Do you have a fear of abandonment or fear of intimacy? One or the other can mean you're either a Love Addict or Love Avoidant. I can teach you how to love yourself instead of looking for it in someone else, and bring down your walls and be relational.

“There isn’t anyone you couldn’t love once you’ve heard their story. ” ― Mary Lou Kownacki. We usually have good reasons for feeling the way we do. With curiosity and compassion, and without judgement, I want to see the world from your eyes. Once I meet you where you are, I can help you take steps toward living a rich, full, and meaningful life. Life brings us all kinds of challenges that can leave us stuck in patterns of relating to others, creating disconnection and feeling stuck in feelings we want to escape from. What would it be like to break free of those patterns, to deal with painful thoughts and feelings effectively?

Through my experience, I have observed that depression,
anxiety
, or any feeling can be understood intellectually, but is experienced in unique ways depending on the individual’s experience. Although two people might share the same diagnosis, their goals and treatment are specific to each client’s specific needs and experiences. My aim is to understand the unique aspects of your experience and, together, we can work toward achieving the goals you set when initially deciding to seek therapy.

Psychotherapy is unique & takes courage. It's fulfilling-yet challenging. Using empathy, collaboration, intuition, open mindedness & humor, we will identify automatic ways of thinking, & behaving- that show up as internal conflict, self sabotage, low self esteem, depression, relationship struggles &
anxiety
. I have a wide array of experience, working with diverse populations, including POC, people diagnosed with personality disorders, those experiencing psychosis, queer identified folks, folks with learning differences, & students with achievement struggles and imposter syndrome. My practice is trauma informed.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
