Do you self-sabotage? You work very hard to get ahead, strive for success and accomplish goals that you desire. Meanwhile, another part of you criticizes, punishes and demeans everything you’re working hard for. Is it a constant battle between what you want to accomplish, how you want your life to be and that harsh critical voice inside your head? That voice is a big part of your depression,
anxiety
and addiction. You are not alone and you are not hopeless and doomed to repeat this cycle over and over. I understand that voice and I want to help you find freedom from it.

I create a safe space for my clients to work through many different challenges, including depression,
anxiety
, life transitions, grief and loss, trauma and PTSD.
I am a mindfulness-based psychotherapist working both in-person and providing Telehealth. Together we will work to identify your personal strengths, and challenge negative thoughts and core beliefs using evidence-based mindfulness techniques and trauma-focused therapies, including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing). EMDR is a therapy that reduces triggers and distressing thoughts, feelings, or memories that remain after difficult or traumatic events. EMDR can help after a one time event, like a car accident or traumatic birth, and for chronic adverse experiences that have built up over time.

Dr. Snyder enjoys working with adults and youth struggling with
anxiety
, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, and other adjustments to new situations. Dr. Snyder believes that therapeutic interactions help to create greater self-awareness and understanding of the ways unresolved issues from the past may be influencing present thoughts, behaviors, and relationships. While Dr. Snyder tends to work out of a psychodynamic modality, she integrates other therapy modalities to meet the unique needs of each individual patient.

All of us at some point in time struggle with
anxiety
, depression, grief, family and relationship conflict, or adjustment to change.
I believe the most influential part of the therapeutic process is the relationship between the client and therapist. I could continue to go to school, and put more letters behind my name, but that won’t mean anything if my clients don’t feel safe, connected, and comfortable. I believe that all of us, at any point in time, can become “stuck.” I welcome your calls to see if we will be a good fit, to travel through your personal navigation for growth, healing, and empowerment.

I'm an LGBTQIA-affirming therapist, fluent in ASL, with an eclectic, holistic therapeutic perspective. Having
anxiety
can cause feelings of being out of control. Depression can cause almost physical pain. Sometimes, in order to feel more in control or in less pain, consumption or lack of food can feel like it's helping. But, is it? The heaviness of trauma can be frightening, frustrating, and even lonely! Everyone has a right to be heard and feel comfortable within their own space. I consider each client to be an expert in their own growth. No one knows you better than yourself. Sometimes, we all just need a little guidance.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
