Often the
adolescent
population struggles with connection with adults and especially adult therapists.
We all have challenging times in our life where we struggle with issues that can feel overwhelming. Often we can find a solution on our own, but at other times we may need to get support from someone who can be objective, supportive and focused on us. â;' I licensed therapist specializing in helping individuals, couples, and adolescents struggling with challenges related to addiction, attachment, relationships, anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and loss, and eating disorders.

Parenting a struggling
teenager
can leave you feeling lonely & helpless - but it doesn’t have to be. For years, I’ve worked with teens who struggle with anxiety, depression, ADHD, defiance, substance use, & much more...& I’ve learned that a little investment in therapy can go a long way in helping them make tough changes that lead to a successful future. Over time, I’ve developed strategies that allow me to quickly connect with teens, help them break through the systems & defenses that just don’t work for them anymore, & help them create new ways of relating to their world that increase their healthy connection to people & life.

As a parent, it's so hard to watch your
teen
or young adult struggle. You know they're capable of so much, yet they seem to be sidelined by lack of energy, confusion about who they are, and an inability to see a bright future for themselves. I enjoy working with teens and young adults who struggle with tackling life. I'm skilled with helping young adults and teens who feel “stuck” – they know they're capable of so much, but they just don’t know where to start in making the life of their dreams happen. I know how to work with young people so that they gain much needed direction and confidence to allow them to soar!

EMDR is another approach we use to help the child/
teen
process their traumas.
As parents, we always want our children to be healthy and happy and right now, it is a particularly challenging time for many. Our passion is to work with children/teens to help with emotional, behavioral and relational challenges. We can work on a variety of areas such as suicidal thoughts, cutting, child abuse, bullying, trauma, ADHD, depression, and anxiety. Individual therapy will offer your child/
teen
an opportunity to discuss problems one-on-one with a trained specialist. The therapeutic bond is formed through both talk and play therapy (sandtray, toys, art, puppets, role playing and games).

Have you observed changes in the mood, behavior, eating, sleeping or overall attitude of your child or
teen
? Noticeable changes, such as forgetfulness, not listening, crying, tantrums, weight loss, "bad" dreams, talking back, or being irritable, might indicate the need for counseling. Children and teens experience anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and chronic illness just like adults.

A majority of my experience includes working with children,
teen
, and transitional age youth (age 16-26 years old).
My name is Shannon Walker and I began providing therapeutic services out of the calling to help those who truly want to heal. By taking a holistic approach to traditional therapy, I have come to discover that healing comes from the desire to change...because staying stagnant is no longer an option. I want to help you help yourself. If you are someone who likes a direct approach to understanding, connection, and communication, set up a free consultation and I would be happy to answer any questions you may have.

I believe the most influential part of the therapeutic process is the relationship between the client and therapist. I could continue to go to school, and put more letters behind my name, but that won’t mean anything if my clients don’t feel safe, connected, and comfortable. I believe that all of us, at any point in time, can become “stuck.” I welcome your calls to see if we will be a good fit, to travel through your personal navigation for growth, healing, and empowerment.

My name is Gabriel Arroyo and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. My desire to become a therapist began when I was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes at the age of 10 and was faced with learning how to cope with this significant change in my life. This experience allowed me to learn coping skills and strategies to overcome struggles that we experience in life and provided me with a passion to provide that same knowledge to others. As a Therapist, my approach is free formed in order to build a respectable comfort between us to work as a team on goals with your existing strengths and skills.

Jeannine enjoys working with children, teens, and adults. My passion is working with the teenage population, and challenging young minds to overcome difficulties that they face. I have the belief that not one type of approach or intervention works for everyone, which is why I like to incorporate my clients interests and needs in therapy. I enjoy challenging the mind of my clients, and aiding them in understanding emotions, behaviors and thought processing.

Dr. Regueiro enjoys working with children, adolescents, and transitional age youth struggling with anxiety, depression, and adjustment to new situations. While symptom relief is an important goal for those entering therapy, Dr. Regueiro believes that therapy can offer more - not just the opportunity to stop being sad, or stop being worried, but the opportunity to thrive and create lives that are meaningful, peaceful, and joyful. Symptom relief is the starting point, not the end of the journey.

"Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending" - Maria Robinson. Today can be the day when you take the first step towards change or it can be the time when you decide to enter a path of growth and well-being. As a therapist, my goal will be to help you in finding wellness and to uncover your true potential. While no one has life without difficult situations or no one can't change their past, still everyone has the ability to learn from their past and the ability resolve current challenges in life.

My clients often feel hopeless, overwhelmed and out of answers. Things feel out of control and they no longer have a handle on drinking, relationships and work/school is overwhelming. My clients need a space to feel safe and free of shame and judgement. My clients often want to feel lighter, connect with friends/family again and not drink. Often my clients are ready to uncover past traumas and hurts to heal old wounds. My clients want to feel like themselves again and feel okay in their own skin.

“We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.”-Maya Angelou. We are all a butterfly in the making. I look forward to being a part of your journey as you transform your pain into a beautiful, strong, and magnificent butterfly. At a young age, I knew that I wanted to help others. Throughout the years, my passion has grown and my desire to show kindness on this planet has intensified.

Life can be quite an experience. Sometimes it goes along smoothly. We feel pretty happy and content. Other times it can become uncertain, even overwhelming. Handling all of the pressures and trying to find balance can become daunting. We may not do things as well as we used to and begin to feel that life is a struggle just to get through. Having support which allows you to find new and creative solutions can be just what is needed to help you get back on track.

Teen Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
