I work with teens and adults—many of whom have ADHD, anxiety, or a deep sense of not fitting in. A lot of the clients I support grew up in families where they weren’t truly listened to—where being helpful, “nice,” or getting good grades mattered more than being themselves. They learned to meet others’ expectations, often living out the dreams of their parents without realizing it. They’ve looked to school, work, partners, or the military to define who they are. Many of my clients are thoughtful, artistic, and sensitive, striving for perfection—but perfection isn’t a human goal. It’s a barrier to authenticity and self-acceptance.

I use an integrative approach that is based on the individual needs of the people in front of me and begins with compassion and empathy. I believe forming a strong therapeutic relationship is key for therapy to be successful. Rooted in person-centered therapy, I use empathy, respect, humor, and curiosity to guide treatment. From there, I weave various evidenced based practices together like Solution-Focused, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment therapy, attachment theory and mindfulness strategies to challenge, empower, build insight and guide you to healthier ways of managing life.

I work with unique individuals who are seemingly successful and happy but deep inside feel lost, alone, even if they are in a relationship, and often feel like they don't belong or struggle to be present in life. With expertise gathered from years of experience across borders, time zones and cultures, I dive alongside men and women into the deep ocean of darkness— including all types of diversity, in-between/intersecting identities, worldwide travelers, high-achieving/performing and creative people. I am Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) certified and was formerly a clinical supervisor and psychologist at Johns Hopkins University.

You deserve to live the highest quality of life you can. Often times we try to heal from both emotional and mental pain by seeking out external factors that are rarely in our control only to see minimally lasting results. My work with you would focus on learning to look inwardly for growth and healing. Understanding how your body and mind respond to emotional experiences can help you be in control regardless of the external factors. You have everything you need to heal; you are not "broken" nor do you need "fixing" sometimes we simply get lost along the way.

As a psychologist I evaluate and treat individuals who seek help for depression, anxiety, life dissatisfaction (from relationships and work stress), relational trauma (e.g. childhood abuse and emotional neglect) and addiction/compulsive behaviors that may co-occur with depression, anxiety or trauma/PTSD. Of note, you do not have to be in crisis to be in therapy; I often work with individuals who are interested in personal growth, long-term recovery issues, regaining meaning and passion after loss and sometimes stopping distressing interpersonal patterns. Treatment is generally trauma-informed and phase-oriented, integrating body-mind interventions and neurobiology. Please visit my website for details,

Have you seen the world lately? A shitshow. Maybe the strategies to get by are no longer working in this increasingly unprecedented world. Perhaps your what felt possible to put off feels increasingly pressing and hard to ignore. Maybe you feel trapped or overwhelmed or confused about how to start doing something different. It's a tough place to be but you've already started the process of getting help and that's a huge deal. It may all feel overwhelming now, it doesn't have to keep feeling that way. My goal is to support you in making the changes that will get you to where you want to be.

27 years as a clinical social worker has taught me that finding the right therapist is like trying on a pair of shoes. It has to be the right fit for you to start the journey of self-exploration. I believe in a strength based approach, where we not only explore the issues that brought you to therapy, but we explore how to expand the things that bring you joy and happiness. As Dr. Seuss once said, “life is a great balancing act” and he could not have been more right.

My name is Doctor Mike Denn. I am a licensed clinical psychologist. My approach to therapy is called Rational Living Therapy. My focus in therapy is to make you be better, not just feel better. I have helped all kinds of clients and I focus on making you feel understood and accepted. A lot of the healing that happens is the result of you being really heard, maybe for the first time in your life. This is what I want to provide you. My goal is to help you understand that it is not other people who are causing your problems but rather how you think about and interpret the situation that is causing your problems.

Life can be tough, and sometimes it feels like the weight of it all is just too much to carry on your own. If anxiety, sadness, or frustration are getting in the way of living the life you want, making you feel stuck or not being the most authentic or successful version of yourself, therapy can offer a space to take a breath, slow things down, and really unpack what’s going on. Sometimes, it isn't obvious why we do the things we do, or feel the way we feel but one thing that is clear is that, You don’t have to face these feelings alone. Seeking therapy isn’t a sign of weakness—it’s a powerful act of self-care and strength.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
