Just living in today’s world can be difficult and exhausting. Many of us feel as if we are just “getting by.” We all struggle with our mental health, from daily conflict with others, feeling frustrated or irritable, painful past experiences(trauma), struggles with work and family, and anxious thoughts. These issues can hinder our ability to heal and grow. We can all use help at times, even if we don’t know how to ask for it. I provide comprehensive support and direct feedback to help guide you through this difficult journey, to reach a path that leads to healing, understanding, acceptance, and resolution.

There is nothing more important than the therapeutic relationship established between you and me. As with any relationship, our relationship will be based upon mutual trust, a responsibility I take very seriously. I believe it is a privilege to help you. I am best suited to the patient who is genuinely interested in resolving his or her problems. What is the problem, what is the solution, and how do we implement it? I will know I have done my job effectively when you smile and tell me your therapy is finished.

“Love and anger are such a puzzle!" Mr. Rogers exclaimed, "It’s the people we love the most who can make us feel the gladdest . . . and the maddest! It’s hard for us, as adults, to understand and manage our angry feelings toward parents, spouses, and children, or to keep their anger toward us in perspective. It’s a different kind of anger from the kind we may feel toward strangers because it is so deeply intertwined with caring and attachment." Does this sound familiar? You are not alone.

None of us enter this world with a User's Manual. When something goes wrong in our lives, where can we turn for help? I sometimes think of psychotherapy as an IT helpdesk for mental health related "technical problems." My approach is kind and gentle; only in a warm and safe environment are we free explore our problems and develop solutions.

I have many years of experience working with individuals from a variety of sociodemographic characteristics with a range of mental health diagnosis including but not limited to a spectrum of anxiety disorders, depression, insomnia, OCD, PTSD, as well as dual diagnoses ( substance use disorder and complex mental health disorder).
My theoretical orientation is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). The focus of this treatment is on maladaptive thoughts or beliefs you have about yourself or situations in your life that can lead to distress, which then can lead to or contribute to mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, and other more complex mental health diagnoses, etc.

I work with people who feel mislabeled by anxiety, depression, trauma, or “adjustment disorder,” and are tired of carrying those stories. You want relief, clarity, and a way back to the self you sense underneath the pain. In a compassionate, de-pathologizing space, I help you feel deeply seen, calm your nervous system, and rewrite patterns that keep you stuck. Using practical tools and gentle curiosity, we move through shame and fear to access confidence, joy, and genuine self-trust—so you can live from the truth that there is nothing wrong with you.

Substance Use Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
