Life is full of messy tensions. People who are supposed to be the safest let us down. The things we know are good for us can be the most difficult to follow through. At one moment, we feel paralyzed by inaction, and in the next, we can be flooded by thoughts. Sorting through these tensions alone can be scary, frustrating, and exhausting. Therapy can provide the opportunity to disentangle and shed light on these aspects of yourself in a non-judgmental, supportive space. It is my joy and privilege to help clients experience relief from the emotional pain they carry, while also developing a deep understanding of themselves.
Are you feeling overwhelmed, fearful or "stuck" due to stress or trauma? Trauma and chronic, overwhelming stress can trigger debilitating symptoms such as feeling overwhelmed, scared, irritable, spacey or moody. Together we can make sense of your past and present to help you feel more motivated, focused and calmer in the future.
Our mission is to master the art and science of engaging the innate human capacity for healing. We help you to remove all the unnecessary and painful layers you have accumulated during your life time, so you can clearly see all of your strengths and the true purpose of your life. Those unnecessary layers are then replaced with more peace of mind, confidence, and joy. Our group sessions also offer the people in our community an opportunity to connect with one another in a supportive and positive environment.

Do you feel alone in the midst of overwhelming emotions? Or maybe you feel lost, numb, or not fully alive? When we experience loss, grief, trauma, or any number of life transitions, we often experience disconnection and dis-integration: from within ourselves and in our relationships with others. This may help us to temporarily from feeling pain, but it also severs our connection to joy and spontaneity. You are not alone. Let me help you find your way back to wholeness through integrating your whole being, your relationship with yourself, and your connection with others.
Do you work from home, home school your children, care for a homebound relative or are just too busy traveling to work to schedule therapy appointments across town? Are you someone who works late evenings or works a “night shift” schedule and cannot see a therapist under the normal operative hours that most therapists offer? My private practice offers a solution to your dilemma. I only provide secure video therapy from the comfort and convenience of your home. I provide services to adults, couples, and families based in California only.
It's been too long since you felt peaceful, present, and comfortable-if ever. Your brain is always going–worried about the future, criticizing yourself about the past, & highly sensitive to how you think people are responding to you in the present. The thoughts in your head affect your body, too, with tension in your muscles, uneasiness in your gut, and a heartbeat that amps up at the drop of a hat. You can barely remember what it's like to be relaxed; just getting through the day takes work and sleep is hard to come by. Now it's impacting your health, work, parenting, and relationships. It's hard not to feel hopeless.
Hello! I am a California state licensed marriage family therapist, who specializes in providing evidence-based treatment and assessment to children, adults and families with a variety of emotional, behavioral and developmental challenges. I am experienced in working with children, teens, and adults in a variety of settings including in-home, schools, non-profit agencies and private practice.
Hello! My name is Emily Linaman and I want to help you work with your strengths, and identify behaviors and patterns that may hold you back from growing into the best version of yourself. Old habits die hard, especially when they are related to past trauma survival skills and other coping mechanisms that no longer serve you. As I earn your trust, I hope we can explore how certain behaviors and habits lead to numbing out, depression, dissociation, isolation, self-sabotage and self-harm. Together, we can explore defense mechanisms, the functions they serve, and try out new coping skills to release you from the past and set you free.
Taking the step to reach out for help and support can be frightening and overwhelming, we commend you for making the move to take care of yourself. At our practice we provide care for individuals, couples, and families that present with a variety of struggles. We want to help you find understanding, growth, and balance in the complex lives we lead in today’s world. Life and relationships can be messy and complicated, we want to help you make sense of this and learn about yourself through the process.
I want to start by thanking you for taking the time out of your day to get to know me. When I was sixteen years old I struggled with a depression so deep I thought I would never escape from it. Through the help of a therapist I was able to see that my darkness was not my destiny. Whether it be from stress, loss, disposition, painful memories, or difficult circumstance, we all suffer from time to time throughout our lives. Sometimes what we need is someone to witness that struggle, and walk with us for a time. It would be my honor to walk with you.
I believe therapy offers opportunity for self discovery, healing, and growth. As an emphatic and supportive therapist, I am passionate about helping my clients heal and be heard because we all have unique voices and stories to share. I work with children, adolescents, adults, parents, and families to minimize conflict, support personal growth, make changes, and strengthen a sense of connectedness and well-being. Using an integrative approach that is holistic and friendly, I support personal and relational development, as well as healing.
Has your life suffered because of trauma you have experienced? I work with individuals, couples, and families to overcome their challenges related to abuse and trauma as well as anxiety, depression, and interpersonal issues. I have worked with survivors of sexual trauma and domestic violence, the LGBT community and unique concerns within that community, and individuals who struggle with co-occurring mental illness and substance use. I'm also familiar with the struggles you may have in managing a chronic illness, such as ehlers danlos syndrome. I value the importance of creating a safe, non-judgmental space to work on yourself.
Becoming a parent is a unique and transformative experience. From the moment of conception through the journey of parenting there is an array of unknown rewards, challenges and experiences. At times parents have no idea how they will feel or react to these challenges and realize that they need help and support through their own journey as parents. Research proves the way we were parented, the environment in which we developed, and the situations around us influence the way we feel and behave as parents.
We all have strategies for dealing with challenges day-to-day. But over time, many strategies can fall short or even backfire. We may find ourselves withdrawing and avoiding certain aspects of our lives, or overextending and pushing ourselves to the point of exhaustion. This can leave us feeling anxious, depressed, and irritable and can also take a toll on our relationships and physical health. One of my goals as a therapist is to help you identify changes you can make, both big and small, and tap into your motivation to follow-through on those changes.
Are you feeling lost, confused, overwhelmed, or anxious? You are not alone. Times are really hard right now and getting through each day can feel like a lot, especially when you’re also handling work, school, or family. It’s easy to get wrapped up in the details and feel like you’re not connecting to your life the way you want to. It might seem like everyone else is living the life they want, so why can’t you seem to get a handle on yours?
What is it that causes you so much pain? Frequently our mental health is directly related to unresolved past hurts and traumas. These struggles can be from childhood and our family of origin, or perhaps they show up in the form of shame from choices we have made or choices other's have made against us. I encourage you to begin the work to overcome your negative experiences. Seek counseling if you want support and direction in gaining a positive perspective, want insight into managing difficult circumstances, or want to improve your communication or conflict resolution skills. You deserve to find fulfillment and joy.
At Gonzales Family Counseling, it is our honor to develop a client centered relationship in order to promote hope, healing, and accessing one's best self. We work with children, adolescents, young adults, adults, couples, parents, and families.
Marriage & Family Therapist Associate, MA, PPS, AMFT, APCC
Deciding to pursue therapy is an important and personal choice. Therapeutic support can help you process relationship issues, difficult life transitions, and gain effective coping skills to manage your mind and body. Therapy is a space to explore and express your authentic self and navigate a journey towards health and wholeness. As an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT), I have 4 years experience working with adolescents. I also specialize in specific populations, including people pursuing higher educational degrees and adults aged 65 and older.
My therapy style is down to earth, warm, inviting and active. I believe therapy is most effective when it is a collaborative process between the client and the therapist. We will work together to explore, reflect and identify areas in which insight and change are needed to achieve your goals. In sessions, I openly share my thoughts and my perspective as a guiding force but respect and believe that you are the leader in the room. I provide therapy as a transformative experience or a space to just let go, it can be whatever you need it to be, as long as the purpose of this space is for you to heal and find more joy in your life.
Are you struggling to find answers about yourself? Do you find yourself at a crossroads in your life? Are you grappling with what your next step might be or how you regain your true self? There are times when we may need some professional help in a safe, warm, and nonjudgmental place to find solace; to understand our sense of self, who we are, and our purpose in this world. It would be my privilege to work with you to help you come to a place of healing and self-growth.
